Don't let the meters put you off.
After much anticipation we visited the recently revamped Steamer Quay club site at Totnes, Devon. Arriving on site we were warmly welcomed by Kevin and his wife who were keen to share what the site, the town and the area had to offer. The site and its amenities were, understandably, pristine, with some planting and other small jobs being completed. At the time of our visit there was no wifi, this however was not the fault of the C&MC, the infrastructure is all there but the service provider has let them down. The electricity metering system is easy to use and is completely transparent, this is provided by a third party and you prepay and connect via an app you download to your phone. The charge is 32p per k/h. We preloaded £10 to our account and after our 3 night stay we had only used £3.30. We used our kettle, microwave, Dyson hot and cold fan and the van’s water heater. Were we more conscious about what electricity we used? Initially yes, the novelty of checking the app soon wore off and we just carried on as usual. I would note though that the only 240v appliance we leave constantly running is the fridge, only connecting the water heater just before we need it. You can have any credit left on your account paid directly back to your bank or save it on the app for another visit to this site or any other using the service. We enjoyed our stay at Steamer Quay, it has everything we love in a site, easy walk into town, buses on the doorstep and trains within half a mile, superb traffic free walking in the hills and along the Dart and lots of shops, including a Morrisons, and eateries just a few hundred yards away. We highly recommend The Balti King, great service and value, it’s tucked up a side street and doesn’t look much from the outside but we enjoyed a great meal here and they packed up our left overs to take home. Also highly recommend Fullers Bakery, we bought stuff for our picnic here, delicious. Will we return to Steamer Quay? Without a doubt!
