A lovely site but ...
Really enjoyed this site because of its proximity to Totnes and trips on the river. There also seem to be plenty of walks to do, unfortunately we didn't have time for these but the round robin trip by boat, steam train and bus was excellent. No electric was not a problem and we coped with the antiquated showers and the free 'scald' at the end as you turned them off! However there are only two so be prepared to queue. Washing up facilities are also tight. The lack of hard standing is the real issue. Although the book says there aren't any three have been set up on the tarmac, separated by flower tubs so they're non-awning pitches. They're not the best but I was worried about being on the grass in rather wet weather even in July, some pitches had been moved because it was wet and several had ruts. I understand from previous reviews that the club can't invest because of a short lease but it does seem extremely short sighted of the council. A lot of people appeared to be going out to eat in the evening so I'm surprised the council is prepared to lose this income. We were also surprised to hear that the club is not allowed to pull people of pitches if they get stuck in the mud. Why?? Something is going to have to give here and it would be a shame to lose this site. How about plastic matting the grass grows through instead of gravel?
Wardens and cleanliness fantastic as usualĀ
PS on every site we've been to this year we've been reminded of the pitching rules. I've no problem with this as it is for safety reasons and it preserves everyone's privacy. Why is it then that on nearly every site, including this one people are ignoring the rule and encroaching on others space?
