Would I Come Here Again?

This was our first visit to Start Bay and our first impression was that the site was very crowded. In some areas it resembled a caravan storage site rather than a caravan camping site. A lot of the units were packed in very close together. By the luck of the draw and what was left we managed to get a pitch away from the masses. It was on sloping grass and there are a lot of sloping grass pitches at Start Bay. The problem with sloping grass pitches is when it rains, and it rained a lot when we were there, so much so that the next village along, Chillington, was flooded and cut off for several hours at one point. We had so much rain that when we stood on our groundsheet the water would come up in pools. However, it does drain away and dry off eventually. My wife had a problem with one of the shower cubicles as water from the next cubicle was washing across the floor as there was no gully to take it away. The Start Bay Inn fish and chips are very over-rated. Lovely fish but the chips were frozen and therefore, in our eyes, not real chips. The road from Kingsbridge to the site is an interesting experience. How a road as narrow as this can get an “A” rating is a bit of a mystery. This road could be noisy at times, especially when the local Neanderthals raced their suped-up cars down towards Slapton Sands. After saying all that, would I come here again? I think I probably would. The wardens were lovely, the site was very clean and the scenery is breath-taking and we now know what to expect.
