A lovely weekend staying at Stamford Club campsite
Our first view at Stamford Club campsite. The single track road to the site as mentioned by others isn't a problem as there are plenty of passing places and although very bumpy isn't under the control of the site. Also a previously mentioned there's no toilet/shower block, however the forestry commission next door does have toilets so when you're all hitched up to leave and need that last minute visit before your journey home a quick 5 minute walk away there are public toilets - very handy.
We received a very nice welcome from the warden who was on his own so was very busy but did a sterling job. We went and found our pitch and came back later and was able to have a little chat then and he gave us some local info on walking routes etc which was great. The pitches are slightly sloped so take some levellers. We were allowed to park nose in which was our preference as we wanted to look at the trees rather than our fellow campers so that was great. There's approx 80 pitches and although the site was busy the only noises to be heard were the red kites calling to each other overhead which was wonderful.
Walking and cycling from the site was great. We did a couple of walks and cycled to Kings Cliffe which was a 5 mile round trip. Kings Cliffe has a bakers (not open Mondays), a pub and a Londis shop for provisions.
We visited Stamford (a friend recommended Lamberts for breakfast/lunch and its lovely, its down Cheyne Lane) , Burghley House (free to park and walk the parkland and have a cuppa, charges for house and formal gardens), Kirby Hall, Lyddington Bede House and The Welland viaduct which is an absolute 100% must do if you like things like that... which we do.
The site is so nicely placed, everything seemed to be within about 10 miles which is great. We would defintely go again.
