First Time, Won't Be The Last

We had a very pleasant four night stay on our way to the North Yorkshire Coast. Handy for coming off the M6, the approach instructions are pretty clear, except for Switch Island where you have to keep to the left, as the road bends, until you see the signs for Southport and the road you need. I used to live in Southport, so know the area pretty well. The Campsite wasn't around when I lived there so I was looking forward to using it and meeting up with some family and old friends. If you know Southport, the site is towards the north of the town, probably nearer Birkdale, but within easy walk of the top of Lord Street. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, very warm welcome from the site staff who talked us through the layout of the site and pointed out that some pitches had been coned off because they had a propensity to flood. The site itself was very clean and tidy, and every staff member I met was approachable and helful. They clearly take pride in the site. There are very good dog walks nearby (including the beach! The nearest pub serving food is probably the Fishermens Rest, just a short walk away; good beer and food, just like it was when I lived in Southport. There are many other good eating and drinking places in the town itself, which is not too far to walk. We were there in term time, so it might have been quieter than during school holidays. All in all, I think it is a good site for a stay on the Northwest Coast, or as a stopover if you're in transit further North, as it's not too far from the M6. I think we'll be back.
