Wet and Windy 2
I think we must have been here at the same time as the last reviewer! Despite the weather we had a great time. The site facilities are new and as you would expect, first class. The underfloor heating gets my wife's vote.
The site is within easy walking distance of the town centre with a Morrisons supermarket a short stroll away through the adjacent park.
Southport it's self is a pleasant town with all of the seaside things required for visitors with children. The pier in particular is spectacular. For shopping etc Lord Street is the place to go.
For trips further afield, there are trains every 15 mins to Liverpool. Both Southport and Birkdale stations are within walking distance.
One thing that should not be missed is Anthony Gormley's "Another Place" installation at Crosby beach. This consists of 100 life sized statues placed in the sand looking out to sea. It stretches for over 2 miles and is very atmospheric.
Ceoliac sufferers such as my wife and others requiring a gluten free (GF) diet will find excellent gluten free fish and chips available from the Fylde Fish Bar. They have 2 shops, the Marshside one to the north of Southport has GF fish and chips on Sunday nights and the Birkdale site on Monday nights. The Westminster tea room on Lord Street has an extensive GF menu including a full afternoon tea with GF cakes and sandwiches. It is a step back to the 1930s going in to the tea rooms.
This excellent club site and the town of Southport are well worth a visit.
