Something for Everyone
Wow! Someone’s pulled out all the stops at Southport? Just returned from two happy nights at this newly refurbished site, the site is pristine with new turf between pitches and two excellent toilet blocks and the staff helpful and friendly. If I were to find fault at all, it would be the lack of a kiddies play area for those times when Mum is cooking the tea and Dad wants to just to sit in the setting sun with a glass in hand while supervising the kids burn up those last drops of energy before bed.
The location of the site makes it an ideal venue for both young and old, everything is within easy walking distance. An obvious attraction is the beach and sand hills, a bird spotters paradise, although you may need binoculars to see the sea if the tides out or a walk out along the pier. Across the promenade there’s a funfair and Splash World for the kids, park with a good free play area across the lake, where you can take a trip or hire a boat. For the shopaholics, Lord Street with its Victorian facades is the place to head for. For the nature lovers and walkers, the sand hills and pine forests of Ainsdale, Freshfields and Formby are great places to explore and are home to Red Squirrels and the rare Natterjack toad and rich in birdlife and within easy reach of the Merseyrail line taking you into Liverpool city centre.
If you haven’t visited Southport before, it’s well worth a trip.
