This was our first visit to Southport and it won't be the last.  We arrived on Sunday at around 12 as requested, but sat for 20 minutes in a queue.  What surprised us was that outfits were still leaving well after 12 and were adding to the congestion on the road.  Why must people abuse the leaving time rules?  They are set this way for a purpose and members who ignore them only cause problems for others trying to get in.  Okay, rant over!  The site is now very large, with neat and pristine gravel pitches, a superb new toilet block and situated in a lovely position between sand dunes and a large park.  As Motorhomers, we left the vehicle on site and made use of public transport.  A 20 minute walk takes you to the railway station where we travelled on one day to Crosby and the following day to Formby.  Both are only 10-15 minute trips and lead to fabulous beaches about a mile's walk from the stations.  Crosby is a must for Antony Gormley's installation "Another Place" set on a beautiful beach backed by sand dunes and Formby takes you to the National Trust at Freshfield to see the red squirrels, which were delightful to watch.  Formby beach is magnificent and stretches for miles.  Southport itself is an interesting town with every shop you could possibly want and Morrisons is just a 10 minute stroll from the site.  We thought this was a perfect site both for adults and children, with plenty to keep all ages occupied.  And thanks to the patient wardens, who were coping so well under pressure on Sunday and smiling through the abuse they were getting from frustrated members.  We do appreciate you all!!
