Excellent in every way
Just returned home after spending 4 nights on this site. It was our second visit, but with a long gap between. However, it did not disappoint in any way. The pitches are a generous size, are flat and reasonably level. The toilet/shower facilities were spotless, and the site is well maintained and tidy. Fortunately we did not encounter any of the "rule breaking" highlighted by the previous reviewer, and had no problems with TV reception either (as mentioned by another reviewer).
There is plenty to do in and around Southport without the need to travel far and wide. There are lots of cycle routes, which are generally quite easy because the landscape is very flat. The ride north along the coast path (NCN62) to Churchtown via Crossens to the Botanical Gardens is worth doing, and it is mostly traffic free. There are two pubs close to the Gardens both serving decent beer and food. If you want a bracing walk, then the "Velvet Trail", which runs to the west of the dunes, parallel to Coastal Road is easily accessible direct from the site. It leads all the way to Ainsdale Beach.
We can also recommend the Mamma Mia Italian restaurant on the east side of Lords Street, about 15 minutes walk from the site. The food was good, the service was good, and the prices are reasonable.
