End of October break

So many people have recommended this site to us - so we went there for the first time on 30/10 for 4 nights ie weekdays. We sought out a quiet pitch, which according to the warden's personal view, is in the centre part. She was not wrong. If we had gone to the far end I'm sure we'd have picked up traffic noise from the roundabout and busy roads just over the fence. In the centre we heard a few shouts on Sunday night but the rest of the time it was peaceful - though we were there for 3 week-nights so can't comment on noise levels at weekends. The site is, as usual with CC, extremely well managed. It's clean, tidy, and given the shape of the land they had to work with, well-laid out. Facilities were immaculate - with a toilet block at each end of the site. I think somebody went mad with wooden fences when the new block was established though. Usually there are several pedestrian access points through gateways - but not on this site! All the way round to a single access point and then back again to the ladies loos. Very odd. It was Halloween while we were there and the wardens had worked extremely hard to capture a Halloween theme all over the site, creativity knows no bounds! It's a pity more children weren't around to appreciate it. As with most reviews, we found the site is extremely well located, both for motor access and proximity to the town, beach, promenade etc. We walked a lot locally, and also visited Crosby to see Anthony Gormley's "Another place" or "the iron men", Formby Point to see the red squirrels (who went into hiding while we were there), Blackpool Tower, and we just caught the illuminations before they closed for the season. There's certainly plenty to see/do in the area, even at the end of October. We can recommend the Chinese restaurant just behind the site too - Ho Lee Chow. Entertaining name! Delicious food at reasonable prices and friendly service. We didn't take our cycles this time, but we noticed all the cycle tracks around the area (and I noticed they weren't too hilly either!) so I'm sure we'll be going back to this site again. Definitely worth a visit!
