Visit 27/6/2015
Overall this is an excellent site with really friendly and helpful wardens. The showers, toilets and washing up area are first class and nearly always spotless. The situation is great for immediate access to the eastern end of the island. The Pointer Inn which serves excellent food, which you may need to book, especially at the weekend but is best visited by car as there is understandably a lack of pavements. We can recommend visits to Ventnor, Godshill, Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle. It is possible to visit nearly everything on the island within a week. The only place we didn't visit, due to my wife's vertigo, was the ski lift down to Alum Bay to view the Needles. We were helped by a beautiful spell of weather, but found the island endearing and restful. If you are a fan of garlic we can also recommend a trip to the garlic farm which is close by.
Only one note of concern, especially if you have an auto watch alarm/immobiliser, is that the remote can be affected by a nearby radar station. Our motor home was completely disabled by it, knocking out the central locking and setting off the alarm every time a door was opened. This was only prevented by disconnecting the battery. The problem was resolved by a long distance phone call to the alarm fitter and a couple of pieces of wire donated to me by the wardens to bypass the immobiliser. Obviously nothing to do with the site, but forewarned is forearmed.
Our first visit to this beautiful island which we will long remember.
