Good for families

Great site, shame about the lack of welcome.

This is the second time we have stayed at this site at the IOW. It is very well situated for Shanklin, Sandown but of course as the island is small it is an ideal starting point to reach anywhere on the island. There is some good cycling on quiet narrow country lanes and plenty of good walking. The pitch was lovely and although it was on grass it was well drained with good pegging ground for the awning. The only disappointing thing on this occasion was the welcome, or lack of it. When we went into the office the warden said, in a very brusque manner, "Club membership card!" Not welcome to Southlands, how was your journey or anything like that, simply a barked command. We felt most uncomfortable. However, later in the stay when my wife went to make an enquiry at the office the other warden was extremely polite and helpful. I guess her colleague was just having a bad day. But don't let me put you off, if you are headed to the IOW it is a great place to stay.
