A lovely site

Southland club site is a lovely place that we often visit. Two weeks ago we went with a different camper and a new air awning. We were struggling a bit to erect it. The warden Ian noticed and was only too happy to spend time lending a hand. He gave us lots of useful tips. He is a real asset to the club. The staff on the site are always friendly and helpful, even when under pressure with queues of people trying to get on the site early after arriving from the ferry! The site is beautifully maintained. The wardens work hard to keep it looking great. We really enjoy our time there.

What a great site

Clean tidy and welcoming. Nicely laid out, with really nice, helpful Wardens, who always seem to be on the go, but who always have a smile and a wave or nod, or just a chat…. They get un deserved grief from some campers at arrival, as being pretty unique being on the IOW, there are ferries involved, you have a ferry at a booked time so allow more time for your journey, get to the terminal early and so arrive at the site early but have to wait until 1300 to check in….often there are queues, but its not the Wardens fault, its the club rules, so PLEASE DONT GIVE THE WARDENS GRIEF! They dont like making you wait either. Rant over! We love on the Island and store out MoHo at Southlands, often having a cheeky weekend on site. For those coming from the North Island there is plenty to do on this beautiful Island Highly recommended

One of the best sites I have stayed on

This is one of the best sites I have stayed on, the facilities are spotless and the staff friendly and always cheerful. The site is well organised and kept immaculate I really felt the staff were proud of their site.

Great site

Had an enjoyable week over half term at Southlands. The wardens are always friendly and helpful. This site is always very peaceful and therefore perfect for some downtime. It is one of our favourite sites to visit. We have visited this site a few times before and have never had a problem getting on the site a bit early when the ferry crossings arrive, until now. Head office now impose a 'one rule, fits all' policy and therefore you are unable to access the site until 1pm. Whilst this works ok on mainland UK sites it does not work on this small island. There's only a small number of caravans permitted on each ferry crossing and therefore it is impossible to arrange arrival exactly when the head office rules state. By nature of the island the roads are small and therefore there is nowhere to stop with a large caravan on tow. Our ferry was one hour late arriving but still we spent 55 minutes driving around the island killing time until 12 o'clock (this is when the wardens allowed access in the short term, since the arrival time change). We had been turned around at the site by the Wardens(not their fault) because they have been instructed that this is what has to be done. This is especially crazy given that it is the club arranging the ferry crossings and therefore are fully aware of the limited travel option. Head office really need to sort this out for Island stays otherwise it will just deter people from visiting. We were only one of many caravans driving around the Island killing time on this day.

Brilliant wardens

Just had a week at this well kept site. The Wardens were amazing, some of the best we have ever had. Always cheerful and smiling and a warm welcome on site even though we were early due to the ferry timetables. Always waving to you as you went past and you felt really welcome. The site is so well laid out and the shop on site is always well stocked, try the New Forest ice cream it is gorgeous. We were welcomed by one of the resident robins who spent most of the week bombing in and out of our awning for titbits, they had us taped. We ate at the Pointer Inn down the road and I have to say the food was excellent, always fresh and well prepared and a choice of regular size plate or smaller. We reduced down to the smaller plate size as the regular was too much for us, but really good value for money. I would recommend booking if you want to eat there as it is so busy because of the good food. Well done to the Wardens on this excellent site.

Hugmans on tour may 2022

First of all I must say it was a lovely clean well kept site wardens were always out and about doing jobs and they were always willing to stop and have a chat We were in a motorhome but we got about with our electric bikes and the buses. Your best bet is to turn right outside the site go down the hill to the cross roads turn right and there are 2 bus stops for different directions 20 mins into Newport and you can get a bus to anywhere. We got an 24 hr bus ticket for £10 so we could get on and off where ever you wanted we timed it right to get 2 tickets that lasted us 3 days. The pub down the road ( left as you come out of the site) was very nice food would highly recommend it was called the pointer another pub about 20 mins walking called the fighting cocks I wouldn't recommend it was just ok Red squirrel cycling tracks were very good kept you off main roads. Will definitely return one day

Excellent Site

What a wonderful site! We've just stayed at Southland's over the Easter holidays with 2 dogs and a 5 year old and loved every bit of the site. On arrival we were greeted by the friendly wardens who were very helpful and clearly keep the site immaculate. It was a 20-25 minute drive from Fishbourne ferry and the site is so well positioned, pretty much in the middle of the island and so easy to get everywhere. The site is spacious and very peaceful. Lovely dog friendly areas and a great off-the-lead dog walk. Our 5 year old loved the play park which is very well equipped. Toilet and shower facilities were excellent, spotless and had lovely hot showers. Big thumbs up there. Another big bonus for us was the ferry discount you get from CMC. You just phone them up and they sort all the ferry booking out for you and you get huge savings. We were tipped-off about this by another CMC member, otherwise we wouldn't have known you can get discount and probably wouldn't have booked. We are so glad we did and we are already planning our return trip. Thank you Southland's for a wonderful holiday.

Excellent

We were so impressed with this site when we visited over Easter and we had the most wonderful warm welcome when we arrived. The staff were so friendly and informative. The pitches were lovely and we had beautiful sunshine all day and the wardens gave us advise on the pitches based on what we wanted. The facilities were great and immaculately kept. I loved that fact that every morning the wardens brought out a giant connector 4 and games onto the green for the children to play. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. Can’t recommended highly enough and I wish all the sites were like this.

Amazing wardens, perfect site

Well I must say the wardens on this site are the best we have encountered, so friendly and helpful and they worked so hard to keep the site immaculate.. We stayed 3 nights in March and had lovely weather so we had some lovely trips out on the bus. Caught the bus to Shanklin then walked on the beach to Sandown and bused back. Dont be put off by the poor bus route outside the site that only runs 3 days a week and only two buses a day as there is another bus stop close by at Amazon World that has connections to anywhere on the island. Would highly reccommend this site.

Jewel of a site from which to explore the Isle of Wight.

This is a superbly maintained site with friendly and helpful staff. The amenity block is immaculate - clean as a whistle! The site is characterised by dense and high hedges which perform the function of windbreaks. These hedges often define the boundaries of a pitch or a number of pitches. Our stay saw consistently high winds which shook the van, and we would therefore suggest the selection of a well shielded pitch if strong winds are expected. Although there are bus routes nearby, you may find that the frequency of buses prompts you to use your car for most visits. The site and ferry package offered by the club is a good deal. One tip - if using the Red Funnel line don't try to check in earlier than 45 minutes before the time of your booked return crossing. We were a little early and were asked to do a tight U turn with the outfit and return later. Fortunately there is a large lay-by about 2 miles south of East Cowes on A3021 (west side) - a welcome refuge in which to wait for the critical moment to leave for the ferry.
