Very Regimental

Arrived early as ferry changed crossing time, but we were turned away from the parking area, we went back at 12.30 and still not allowed on site on the hottest day ever recorded. Pitch was empty so no reason. My cat was really poorly in the heat and I was desperate for electric for fan as cold water to cool him was not working. Opened barrier exactly to the second on 1pm, and staff running around full of self importance . We have been to so many places and have never come across this before. Then we went to buy an ice cream and we had no cash on us and was told only cash for ice cream but you could buy anything else for much less money and use a card. Worse treatment ever on any site which spoilt the stay.

Fantastic week in Southland

Had the best time with incredible weather over the past week. Great site -especially for cyclists like us. Close to the Red Squirrel trail that has a fab cycle track to most of the Island. We cycled to Sandown, Shanklin, Newport and Cowes with lovely lit stops along the way. Walking distance to 2 pubs with great food (the Pointer and Fighting Cocks. Clean and well kept site with lovely helpful staff. Only down side was the strict rule not to arrive b4 1pm -even 10 minutes b4 you are turned away and not able to wait on site. The only other thing was finding your spot to set up -you are not given a plot but asked to find one which is a pain after a long drive there. However -you can get over such things and thoroughly enjoy your stay.

Southlands IOW

Lovely site, shame about the 1.00 rule. If you arrive before 1.00 you are turned away nowhere to park so you have to drive around the Island till you can return to Southlands. I’m not on my own about this, most people I spoke too had issues with the 1.00 o’clock

Gem of a site

We have just returned from our holiday to the Isle of Wight. Southlands is a little gem of a site. very clean and tidy. The Wardens were very friendly and helpful. There is plenty to do and see on the Island, we ran out of time so will be back again soon.

Just looking

The wardens were very welcoming and were on hand to offer advice concerning the size of our awning. The site was very clean and the toilet/shower blockes were spotless. All pitches were well marked. 2 pubs within walking distance. Garlic farm not too far away. Donkey sanctuary and Monkey world were also close by. A very good campsite located in a great area for visiting anywhere on the island. No complaints from these campervan tourists.

A lovely site

Southland club site is a lovely place that we often visit. Two weeks ago we went with a different camper and a new air awning. We were struggling a bit to erect it. The warden Ian noticed and was only too happy to spend time lending a hand. He gave us lots of useful tips. He is a real asset to the club. The staff on the site are always friendly and helpful, even when under pressure with queues of people trying to get on the site early after arriving from the ferry! The site is beautifully maintained. The wardens work hard to keep it looking great. We really enjoy our time there.

What a great site

Clean tidy and welcoming. Nicely laid out, with really nice, helpful Wardens, who always seem to be on the go, but who always have a smile and a wave or nod, or just a chat…. They get un deserved grief from some campers at arrival, as being pretty unique being on the IOW, there are ferries involved, you have a ferry at a booked time so allow more time for your journey, get to the terminal early and so arrive at the site early but have to wait until 1300 to check in….often there are queues, but its not the Wardens fault, its the club rules, so PLEASE DONT GIVE THE WARDENS GRIEF! They dont like making you wait either. Rant over! We love on the Island and store out MoHo at Southlands, often having a cheeky weekend on site. For those coming from the North Island there is plenty to do on this beautiful Island Highly recommended

Great site

Had an enjoyable week over half term at Southlands. The wardens are always friendly and helpful. This site is always very peaceful and therefore perfect for some downtime. It is one of our favourite sites to visit. We have visited this site a few times before and have never had a problem getting on the site a bit early when the ferry crossings arrive, until now. Head office now impose a 'one rule, fits all' policy and therefore you are unable to access the site until 1pm. Whilst this works ok on mainland UK sites it does not work on this small island. There's only a small number of caravans permitted on each ferry crossing and therefore it is impossible to arrange arrival exactly when the head office rules state. By nature of the island the roads are small and therefore there is nowhere to stop with a large caravan on tow. Our ferry was one hour late arriving but still we spent 55 minutes driving around the island killing time until 12 o'clock (this is when the wardens allowed access in the short term, since the arrival time change). We had been turned around at the site by the Wardens(not their fault) because they have been instructed that this is what has to be done. This is especially crazy given that it is the club arranging the ferry crossings and therefore are fully aware of the limited travel option. Head office really need to sort this out for Island stays otherwise it will just deter people from visiting. We were only one of many caravans driving around the Island killing time on this day.
