First off, the site is lovely - the shower blocks have been beautifully refurbished since our last visit and it is much more convenient being able to still shower at one end whilst the other is being cleaned. We need to thank Steve Lorton who came to our assistance when my husband had a medical episode and subsequently went to Scarborough A&E. He was calm and took control of the situation, helping to organise a taxi as we were unable to drive to the hospital and the wait on the ambulance was over an hour. He looked after our caravan, car and keys whilst we were away and to him, we would like to say another thank you very much. Steve is an asset to the Caravan and Motorhome club.
Steve, the warden, was outstanding.

Scarborough, West Ayton, stunning
Had two nights here, and it is wonderful. Lively and humorous greeting from the Warden at that time - Steve Lorton - a most engaging entity and wonderful host. The facilities here tick every box: hotel-standard amenities, with wonderful shower and toilet block, including bathrooms - with baths!
The dog-running field is outstanding. This site is a total credit to the Club, well done!

Back after the refurb'
Just had 7 glorious sunny days at this site after its recent refurbishment.
I have got to say the toilet/shower facilities are fantastic, well done to the club for spending the money on a very modern set up, and the idea of them never being closed whilst cleaning is also a massive improvement.
The site was immaculate and tidy, the wardens were very chatty and friendly but as a previous review I was a little disappointed these was no on site shop for either an Ice Cream or caravan supplies.
The site was rather empty when we stayed (17 - 24 June) so the choice of pitches was easy. Large enclosed dog walk away from any pitches and a large childrens play area.
You will need very strong rock pegs if staying on a hardstanding, I bent several of mine as did our neighbour when trying to put up our awnings, I did hear a few choice words from other campers who also had similar problems.
The site has easy access to any of the coastal towns and the near-by pubs offer nice food and drink.
We will be returning to this site in the future.
Peaceful & clean site
Very clean new facilities with dual loos/showers so no locking out when cleaning so great idea. Quiet apart from a few bird scarers in next field. Was surprised site was quite empty. Nice big pitches @ £39.80 for hard & EHU it is fairly expensive but I guess they have to pay to upgrade sites. Shame you still have to pay for WiFi as it's free with the other Camping club. Very disappointed & surprised there was No shop thus no papers, sweets, icecreams which limits interaction with staff & makes site less homely. Having been on many sites this seemed odd. I know the Spar shop was down the road but it's not the same.Thought that the site appeared 'Soulless' to me. Bus at bottom of road every 2 hours to Scarborough where lots to do & see.2 nice pubs close so useful for motorhomers that leave their vehicle on site & trek out like us.
First visit fabulous site
Just spent five nights at West ayton.i dont normally do reviews, but this site is an excellent nice tucked away location. Big pitches set well apart.
Fantastic facilities, like the site, kept immaculate by an excellent team of wardens.
Well worth a visit and will be back.
Fantastic Experience
We visited this site in May just after the Coronation and I wasn't disappointed on arrival after my expectations were high having read about the refurbishment the site had in 2022. The site was spacious, immaculate in cleanliness, the toilet facilities were the best I have experienced and I loved the fact they remain open at all times with a nifty way of cleaning them in two halves to allow that. Lovely hard standing pitches, plenty of options on water and waste facilities and all in all a great site and location for the daily East coast trips we made. I also want to give a huge shout out to the week day and weekend wardens that went above and beyond in helping me with a serious problem with my van, giving me the flexibility required to allow for it to be picked up from site on a trailer after I had finished my holiday the day before, giving me the support and peace of mind all would be OK and following up with phone calls the next day to let me know what had happened with my van. They turned a stressful situation into a simple procedure and I can't thank them enough. I will definitely return in the future and if you have children you would never see them on this site, the facilities are incredible to keep them entertained too.
Immaculate site with great facilities
We stayed for 4 nights, 17th to 21st April. The site was quiet and there were lots of pitches to choose from. We stayed on the middle part of the site and enjoyed lots of space around us, surrounded by grass and greenery.
The refurbished toilet block is lovely and the new arrangement for cleaning means that there are always showers and toilets available.
The site has a great dog walking field and play area for children.
West Ayton village is a short walk away with a great pub and spar shop not too far.
The site is kept immaculately, it feels open and green with trees and surrounded by fields yet not far from village amenities. The wardens are friendly and this is one of our favourite sites, we’ve always had lovely stays here and it’s located from some stunning coastal towns and villages. We will continue to return to this site, it is truly lovely.
Immaculate site
Our first time at West Ayton . We stayed here for a week from the first day of opening for the 2023 season. The access to the site is good. The site itself is refurbished to a high standard and although in a rural position it is manicured to perfection. The staff are really friendly and Steve in particular was extremely helpful. The pitches are a good size ( you need levelling blocks for a handful of them. The dog walking area is great and the field is a good size. The showers and toilet facilities are the best i have seen and due to a unique design layout are never closed during cleaning. West Ayton is only a 10 - 15 minute walk away and has good dog friendly gastro pubs, a top notch fish restaurant, a chippy and a brilliant Spar supermarket and petrol station. This SPAR shop is one on its own. It sells locally produced meat, fresh bakery bread and pastries, hot breakfast sandwiches and hot rotisserie chickens aswell as the usual groceries and provisions. You even buy your beers and lagers from a walk in fridge cold-room. Perfect.
We will definitely be back to this site and will book a premium pitch next time.
Lovely site and friendly staff but……..
We have just returned from a 5 night stay and overall we had a great stay and we were very impressed by the site, it’s a credit to the team. Great facilities that are immaculately maintained and presented by the team.
We booked a premium pitch and these are really spacious and located in two areas, four pitches in a quiet corner and seven on the edge of the childrens play park. Although the site was almost empty as it was coming to the end of the season the premium pitches in the quiet area were all taken when we arrived so we set up adjacent to the play area. I’m sure these pitches would be great for those with children but I would not recommend them for couples hoping for a peaceful stay as the tarmac multi-sport court (basketball, football, cricket etc) is really close to the pitches and bouncing balls/excited children can be challenging. It’s important to say we realise children need somewhere to play and we wouldn’t want to spoil their fun; it’s just that we wouldn’t normally pitch anywhere near a play park but we had no choice on this occasion due to the type of pitch we had booked. The play area is really large and I believe the multi-sport court was a new addition during the recent refurbishment and I think the planner’s should have put it further into the field to reduce the potential impact on those using the most expensive pitches on the site.
The pitches on this site are very well laid out and although it’s a large site the natural partitions, trees, hedges etc make it seem much smaller and pleasant.
We would definitely visit this site again and would recommend it to others but we would not book a premium pitch again.
