Nice but remote

We stayed on this site in June 2016 for a week. The site itself is a quiet and peaceful site. The site is sectioned off into little coves which give plenty of peace and privacy. Pitch 47 was a nice spot which was adjoined by one other pitch under the trees and a short walk to the facilities but I can imagine the pitches further round could be a struggle for those who struggle to walk. With the peaceful comes an issue with lack of points of interest close by. The site is a little remote and to visit shops or pubs in a car drive in reality. I was disappointed with the dog walk albeit it appeared it was a public footpath and not owned by the site, which was overgrown with nettles and bramble. Although nothing close by to walk to the places of interest to visit there is plenty with Stonehenge, Highclere Castle (downton) Salisbury, Bournemouth, Winchester all within 30 mins drive made sight seeing interesting.

A fantastic site

A fantastic site for visiting the south - friendly and pleasant. We have been regularly as it's a convenient distance from where we live and lots to do in the Salisbury area.

A little gem

An idyllic site and with a wonderfuly warm welcome on arrival. The best site we have ever found and handy for Salisbury with Park and Ride a few miles down the road - free for the golden oldies !! If you are looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful location then this is the place to go, but don't tell anybody, they might all rush there. Facilities just perfect and so well tended. So sorry did not catch the wardens names, but thank you for a lovely visit.

Bank holiday weekend

Lovely couple Paula and husband site managers, helpful and also concerned when we had slight electrical problem (but sorted things out after a moments quiet thought!).  Facilities spotless.  Found quiet lower pitch with friends.  Not the easiest site to find walks from as roads around it have no or restricted pavements, and I also forgot my OS map. Salisbury very easy to get , go early on a Saturday and enjoy a lunch time beer by the market stalls!

Very good for those who like seclusion

This site is, as the name indicates, set on a hillside; it is wooded with pitches set either singly (mostly hard standing), or in groups (mostly grass) in discreet glades within the trees down a winding and fairly steep road. There are a few grass pitches in a more open position at the top of the site. I used to live in the area and I was visiting to see old friends and attend an event. I probably would not come to this site otherwise as these kind of wooded, enclosed sites are not at all to my personal taste. I find them oppressive and rather depressing and I was glad I was only here two nights. For those who like this kind of environment I cannot think of better. Some pitches seem to have been positively shoe-horned into the hillside and looked a bit small to my eye. Although it is off the busy A343 Salisbury to Andover Road, I found that traffic noise was minimal and not at all a problem. For those, like me, with a motorhome and no alternative form of transport, there is a bus service, of sorts, to Salisbury or Andover. As one who used to live in Andover I can say “nothing to see here” so Salisbury, where there is much to see, or nearby Stonehenge, are the essential places to visit. However, the Army Air Museum, in the Andover direction, is also worth half a day. There are slim pickings for cyclists, and even worse for walkers; cyclists can get to places if they are quite comfortable on main and very busy roads. I didn’t need it, but I found the TV hopeless – about the worse I can recall. Maybe this is pot-luck according to where one pitches. The loo block was fine, but it is a long walk from many of the pitches and uphill. Mostly, I use my own facilities and I really think this would be the chosen plan for many who come here. The wardens I met were welcoming and friendly. Exiting the site, especially turning right, made me a tad nervous, even in a motorhome, but plainly this is not something within the CC control. Overall a lovely site if you like trees and a real away from it all feel.

On our way home

We were on our way home from Beaulieu, where they wanted £20 overnight stay on Sunday, with very little facility's , so we decided to use our Caravan club membership. We were not disappointed. Very friendly and helpful staff. We were towing an exhibition trailer, this was no problem, as the pitches are ample. Facilities superb  We will stay on the way down and back from the International  Autojumble in September .

Great site - quiet and well sited

We have used this site several times and always enjoyed it - it is quiet and unassuming and very well placed for our interests. the pitches we have used are grassed and on various levels and the majority are well separated. The site staff are very helpful and friendly

Enjoyed our stay

We really enjoyed our stay here. Just two nights on a BH weekend in early May. Great location for visiting Salisbury and Stonehenge which is what brought us here. We did not use the facilities as used our own but my wife said they were nice and clean. I was disappointed that the site specifically said it was mobile and tablet friendly but had no wifi! How is a site supposed to be tablet friendly without wifi??? Also there was virtually no TV signal which might annoy some. I don't know why it is so difficult not to be upfront about these things, just so people can arrive informed. The site was very peaceful and we liked our pitch. The road around is quite narrow and the exit onto a 50mph single carriageway with little visibility over brow of the hill was nerve wracking. Overall though we did enjoy our stay and being allowed to check out late on the Monday meant we could go for lunch in Salisbury before leaving which was a very nice way to end our visit otherwise we would have been rushed off site and would not have been able to enjoy the "extra" day. Thanks Salisbury Hills. Nice herb garden too.

Levelling blocks needed!

This site is very quiet and really quite small. What the site information doesn't tell you is how narrow and steep the site road is. Some of the nicer hard standing pitches are not accessible to long outfits as the site road is too narrow and steep to back the outfit onto them. I think the facilities were as expected for the site size and age, older but clean. I'm surprised the site doesn't operate a midday departure and 1PM arrival time as the entrance is a bottleneck. We will not return only because we think it's too small for us and the choice of pitches available to large units is limited.
