With only 50 pitches, Salisbury Hillside is one of the smaller sites in the Caravan Club network - however that compliments rather than detracts from its attraction. We can only concur with the majority of others opinions on the cleanliness of the toilets etc., the friendliness and helpfulness of the wardens (and other caravanners) and how wonderfully peaceful and relaxed it is. There is some road noise from the A343 and A30 (dependent on which way the wind is blowing) but it never became obtrusive.
True, it doesn't have some of the facilities of the larger sites, for example there is no Wi-Fi (although mobile reception and data was good) and no children's playground (nor indeed is there anywhere for them to play other than close to the caravans) so it's not recommended for those visiting with youngsters - hence our assessment of only 1 tick in our overview.
Furthermore, there are no local facilities (other than the small site shop) within walking distance of the site (the nearest village shop is around 2 miles away). However as a base for visiting, for example, Salisbury, Andover, Winchester etc. plus a number of other tourist attractions, it is ideally located.
You should note that the access road to the site is very narrow; you will just about get your caravan or motor home down without touching the hedges on both sides, but it is relatively short and straight so you can see if anything is coming from the other direction. Also, this road is easily missed (although the site is signposted). Therefore if approaching from the east (A343 from Andover), you should note that the turning is immediately after the 50 mph sign as you approach Lopcombe Corner. If travelling from the West (A343 Salisbury) it is immediately before the national speed limit sign.
If you are looking for good value cafe style food, try the Apache Cafe at the Army Aviation Centre - you do not have to pay to visit the museum if you only want to eat.
Rural delight
A delightful site to stay at when visiting Salisbury. Very friendly and helpful wardens and spotless facilities. Wonderful views from the site and so quiet and peaceful.Â
Salisbury review
Very pleasant site. Wardens very friendly and helpful. Facilities very well kept. Good views over surrounding countryside but apart from the dog walk there was nowhere to walk straight from the site. The bus service to Salisbury is not that frequent and you would have to return fairly early to be sure you could get back to the site.
If you are looking for peace and quiet, this site is very good.
Lovely Site, a Real Gem.
This was our first visit to this site as we were looking for an alternative stop over site from Morn Hill. What a lovely site - we had booked in for the weekend but stayed for 6 nights in the end. Wardens very nice and very helpful, the site is clean and well looked after and the toilet block is clean and equipped with superb facilities. Peaceful, lovely secluded pitches set in woodland, it was good old fashioned camping with all the modern requisites. We will be returning regularly for stopovers and short breaks. Highly recommended.
Great Site
This is the second time we have stayed at Hillside as a stopped at Hillside on our way home from the ferry. It is a beautiful site, spotlessly clean and very well tended. My only dissapointment is the lack of wifi especially as I have a 12 month subscription. The staff at Hillside are lovely and work very hard to maintain the site. I wish it were closes and we could visit more often.
very Tranquil Site
Although not too large, the site is interesting with pitches being in secluded glades, I was very pleased with the services available and the wardens were very friendly and helpful. The only criticism I have is the signage on the approach road to the site. There are none.
That being said we will definitely return as it is in a very good location.
Lovely little site
Stayed here for just one night on a beautiful sunny weekend in August. Found a perfect pitch for catching the rays after being welcomed by a very helpful and friendly warden. Although the site was full it was extremely tranquil, no noise from anywhere other than birdsong! Didn't have to queue for the well equipped and spotlessly clean showers either, despite the fact that there were only three of them. All in all a little gem of a camp site!

A Little Gem
What a fabulous site! The site has lots of small areas for pitching which make it very private and peaceful. With only one facilites block it is a walk up hill if you pitch at the bottom of the site. We only stopped for one night after collecting our caravan from it service but we will be back. Very handy for Salisbury or Winchester with lots to see and do in the area. The entrance to the site is narrow with some fierce "bumps" even when you drive very slowly. We had the best welcome from the wardens we have ever had on any site. Not much for children here but super for people looking for peace and quiet
