Motorhome 'get together' weekend

We have stayed at this site on several occasions but not since it became an Affiliated Site. A group of 5 motorhomers met for the weekend and were allocated fantastic, hard standing, all serviced pitches, next to each other. We really appreciated this thoughtful gesture by the lady who took our bookings. We were made aware of an evening meal offer at Greetham Valley Golf Club and decided to give it a go. We were collected and dropped off by minibus from the golf club and had, what has to be, one of the most enjoyable meals at just £10 for 2 courses. We were so impressed we returned for a 2nd night to enjoy their Pie, Pud & Party night. Again we were collected and dropped off right outside the site. This made both evenings such an enjoyable experience. The site was so quiet, it was lovely to wake up to the sound of birdsong everywhere. The newly laid all service pitches in the 'Adult only' area were very generous with more than adequate space between each other. The idea of having this area dedicated to Adults is a brilliant idea. The site is very well maintained and although a quieter time of the season, nothing was too much trouble. We all had a happy, relaxing & thoroughly enjoyable weekend - so much so, we have pencilled the same time & the same site this time next year!

Christmas getaway

This is my forth stay at this site and my second Christmas. I find the staff to very helpful and cheerful especially over the festive period. Always having a laugh with us. The only niggle is paying £1 PP to visit us, and as we have a lot of family and friends that live in the area this cost mounts up. There are a couple of lovely pubs in the village which you can walk to in 10 mins and a brilliant play area for the children. My two love it. We will definitely be returning.

Stopover days.

We were on our way to Ferry Meadows and stayed for two nights in early September. The site pitches are slightly smaller than usual both side to side and front to back.As our van is only tiny this not a problem but could be to very large outfits.Allowing for the affiliated status, the site is not to the standard of Club sites generally. The washroom facilities are in need of some updating which is actually in progress at the moment. We did not find the wardens to be particularly cheerful, especially when we explained that we needed to leave fairly early to be somewhere. We found the area to be full of interest and particularly enjoyed Barnsdale Gardens which are only about three miles away. There is a lovely path to the village which comes out near the village hall and the village pubs are reccommended. We enjoyed our drive round Rutland Water and Oakham itself though it is true that the road does not go very close to the lake.We would probably return when the updating has been completed.

No (Rutland) Water

Compared to some of the CLs I've stayed in the facilities were adequate if inferior to cheaper club sites such as Incleboro Fields in Cromer where I'd stayed for two nights before coming here. However, my main complaint is that it's nowhere near Rutland Water, probably the main attraction to caravanners/motorhomers in this tiny county. Partly my own fault for not researching the location more thoroughly but the blurb in the club's handbook does nothing to discourage the notion that Rutland Water is nearby even if the page map doesn't actually show it. Beware of hordes of flies in Greetham's pubs. Apparently there are two chicken farms nearby containing 10,000 birds and despite doing all they can, the locals have difficulty in keeping them at bay.

Disappointing

Having done a tour of Scotland this was a stopover on the way home. Very convenient for the A1 just a mile away. Quiet site with a separate adult area. However we were disappointed with the facilities there. Although they are gradually being updated and due to be completed early 2016, the showers were dire, the curtains had seen better days and were in need of replacing, also the soap holders were rusty. It wouldn't cost much to replace these. We felt a reduction in price during the ongoing work should have been offered. May try again once the upgrade has been completed.

Holiday

We were booked in for a weeks holiday, after only 4 days here we are finding it really quite disappointing so are heading home, not much to do in surrounding area, the site itself was rather disappointing,to, bit run down and in need of some updating, not kept very well , the new wardens were very nice and friendly and told us that they had only taken over a week ago so lots to do for them poor things to get it up to scratch, I,have been to,many sites but by far this is the worst SORRY,  Stamford is lovely, oakham not much there, melton mobury not great, rutland water itself a let down compared to the Lake District but then again it was ok. We will NOT be back again, wasn't enough to keep us amused at all. The site could do with more updating, and showers were not good either, Cottesmore had a great little pub that allowed dogs in called The Sun Inn 2 for £10 lunchtimes and 2 for £10 Wednesday evenings fantastic food . A very disappointed couple .

weekend away

We chose a site close to home for a weekend away as 7 families. The site is clean, tidy, the family pitches around the large central play field is great. The site also seems to be safe for kids too. It would be better if the kids park was in the centre of the site so you can keep am eye on them without being stuck at the play park. The pool is good value I you do a private booking for the whole pool too. the only comment I have is as a grown adults we were told to go back to our own pitches at 2300 since we were all sat together at the pick Nic tables on the field, which was a bit like being told to go to bed. We weren't making undue noise that we were aware of (and no more than people on a pitch the other side of the field who were sat on their pitch. We will be back.

Disappointed

We have been on this site before but this time we were quite disappointed with it . The electric was only 10 which is not enough and kept tripping when we had the kettle the radio and then something else on. we also found the toilet block well well past its sell by date and totally inadequate for the no of guests once the weekend arrived, there was a notice saying it was being refurbished but talking to others this seems to be an ongoing thing and doesn't seem to be happening , its a shame because the wardens were really friendly and helpful but I am afraid this site falls well below Caravan Club standards

OK But

Made a return visit to this site after three years and it has grown with a new swimming pool facility and more service pitches installed but not the finished item yet. Unfortunately, the washroom facilities on the “Adult Only” area have inadequate toilet facilities for the size of this area (the Gents have two cubicle’s), although there are plans for four new private washrooms this spring/Summer. The facilities that are there are very poorly maintained with toilets not flushing correctly or at all, and only two Dish washing sinks. The “New Fully Serviced pitches” seemed to have been done on the cheap, yes they have electric, fresh water tap and Grey water facilities, which by the way are useless, unless you carry around an extended waste pipes with you, the hardstanding is loose stone bordered by soil with no border retainer which proved to be a problem when it rained, as it did. The pitch access roads to these pitches needs some upgrading and a one way system put in place.  Just felt that the facilities and pitches should be in place before the paying public start to use them, bigger is not always better unless the facilities are available or up to standard

Bio mass nightmare

We were looking forward to a short break on the site as the village looked lovely. Unfortunately we had to cut short after 3 days of our stay due to the bio mass boiler, which apparently had malfunctioned. So we breathed in horrible black smoke for hours on end, our throats still hurt and we are back home. A few other caravanners also complained. When we pointed this out to staff they apologised and that they were dealing with the problem.  We were looking forward to using the swimming pool, but never got in it. £4 each for a half hour swim. The site was featureless, with not many hanging baskets and flowers that you normally see at at club site, (this is affiliated we know) but still. The staff were friendly enough. Shame we never got to enjoy ourselves.
