Good for families

Noisy and backs onto a graveyard

I'm really very sorry to have to give a bad review, but this campsite was, unfortunately, the worst I have ever stayed on and I've been camping for a good few years (since the early 1980s), but only recently joined and used the Caravan Club facilities. Good points: the pitches were flat, level and gravelled. Hook-up points are shared, 4 to one post. There were a lot (and I mean a lot) of big shops nearby (KFC and Halfords were located opposite, while half a mile away were Sainsbury, Tesco and the like). Bad points: Pitch backed onto a graveyard (was not informed about this). A very, very busy main road running alongside the site. A key for the toilet blocks was obligatory which indicated to me the staff (unlike at other sites) did not regularly check the site/facilities or its customers satisfaction levels. I said I didn't need the key because I had my own toilet in the campervan. This was met with stiff resistance and the reason given was that staff would know I was off the site when my key had been handed back in through the letterbox. I tried to negotiate the reasons why I didn't want it and other ways around the situation, but this was their system and they were sticking to it. I'd rather not say anymore as I don't wish to spread ill-feelings. However, I will be avoiding this site in future.

May I just point out here that the toilet block is locked to prevent members of the public wandering on site to use the facilities.

Hi, whenever we are looking to stay somewhere we have not visited we always take a look at Google maps and street view.

Its really usefull for checking approaches etc and so good that if you look at the Rowan Park are you will see the memorial to racing driver David Purley and the ridiculous positioning of a 40 MPH sign.

I can understand about road noise but I'm not sure why backing onto a graveyard is a bad point, or even why the club should inform you of this?

Actually what you claim to be a good point (a lot of big shops nearby) would actually be a negative point for me and shows how what is good for one isn't for another and the club can't possibly be expected to know and therefore inform people of them.

At least the neighbours won't be noisy laughing - I hope undecided.

The site is in a busy area what with the nearby proximity of the roads and the retail units opposite but there is common land adjoining the site (unless it’s been built on) that's ideal for dog or people walking. I think it’s a site that you need a specific reason to visit.

I've been there twice and not noticed the graveyard and had a job to spot it on Google aerial view.👻

I think if you had taken the time to look, the graveyard you quote is a stone memorial yard where stones are bought, the key for the shower block has two uses, one to keep wanderers onto the site out of the block and two acts as a departure tag so that staff know who has left at the end of their stay, not as you elude to that the facilities are not checked. Again perhaps looking before becoming a keyboard warrior would have helped. No electric hook ups have more than three outlets on the whole site.  But I’m sure the rest of your review was as accurate as the rest.

NO GRAVEYARD LOL! A stone mason's yard displays headstones for people to buy, no stiffs in sight! Nearest graveyard is 2 miles away. laughing

I've stayed at this camp site and I have to say ,a more lovelier well kept

site would be hard to find. I never noticed the graveyard ,if there is one,

i understand it's a stonemasons yard, as for traffic noise ,I honestly

never noticed as the site is back from the road ,at the front anyway,

i thought this site was a bit of a gem, especially with the fantastic walking area just to the side of the site.i found the shops opposite

to be a positive feature.i think there's an Aldi there ,what's not to like,

im just booking up now for the coming weekend. someone suggested

you would need a specific reason to come here, yes I think it's called

CAMPING,lol,
