If you don't have a caravan or motorhome this site is an excellent reason to get one.
Almost Faultless ... caravanning & Motorhoming at its very best. Be aware ... if you have a twin axle, 7m+ caravan, then you will need motor movers to get onto your pitch in busy times. NOT because the pitches are small they're ALL huge, or because the pitches are close together (they're not) but like many CAMC sites, the internal road is narrow. If you ask one of the team (expecially Warden 'Paul') I'd bet a years' salary they'd pitch it for you.
So that's it ... the closest thing to a 'fault' on this site (in my opinion) ... now to the myriad of reasons why you SHOULD add this site to 'that list' of sites to visit. Rookesbury Park must be one of the best, most picturesque of campsites. Set in a beautiful valley, all pitches 'levelled' in a terraced-style main park. They're large & most have a greass area around them to enjoy too.
Plenty of water, grey-waste and bin areas all over the site. Two excpetionally well-kept facilities blocks (a little dated maybe but always spotless), a huge play park for kids (actually for adults too with the games they have chosen to have on hire ... boules, a giant connect4, a badminton court, 5-a-side football pitch and very well-equipped kids play areas with slides, climbing frames, slides etc ... all in a soft floor area. It's exceptional and I had great fun, kept me occupied for ages!!
The campsite is huge and set deep in the Rookesbury Estate. It's surrounded by Bere Forest and Hundred Acre Wood (didn't see Winnie the Pooh though) which is stunning, has several kilometres of walks and rides, with 2 'Den-Building' areas, many picnic areas a a large adventure playground area.
The best bit? The campsite has a private-access gate (pin-code needed) into the forest giving access after 8pm which is when the main forest car park closes and thus the general public leaves. It's a beautiful additional (and FREE) facility to the campsite that has to be experienced to be fully appreciated. There is also a beautiful, large dog-walk area. The vast grounds within the Rookesbury Park are wonderfully kept, Paul, Libby and their team work tirelessly to ensure they are kept that way. The site shop is brilliant; frozen and fresh bread, all essentials (even marmite!), stacks of choice in the ice cream cabinet, calor gas, local farm supplied BBQ packs and much more.
There's even a large visitor car park. The team are friendly, happy, always ready for a chat, so helpful (even with caravan breakdowns, just about anything they could help customers with, they do and they do it with a genuine smile on their faces. We may have just found our 'new home' in the south. If you are a member of CAMC then this is 'MUST-visit' site, if you're not a member, this is a 'MUST-visit' site, and if you don't have a caravan or motorhome, then this site is your reason to get one.
To CAMC Committee ... you're missing a trick not having this site open all year!
