This was our second visit to this site. The site is very well maintained and the facilities blocks are spotlessly clean. The site staff are friendly and are also very helpful with local information. There are plenty of walks from the site through the wood to the pub and to Wickham, and the instructions provided by the site staff were clear to follow. We're buying our new campervan from Southdown Motorhomes, so will be returning to this site again next year!
The guys (wardens) here were unbelievably helpful to us two women novices, first Motorhome, and first time taking it out. They honestly couldn’t do enough to help. And we did run into problems a few times during our 2 night ‘test flight’ stay. Don’t usually name people but these guys really do deserve a shout out… so thank you to Les and Ady in particular. You have literally made our experience better by helping us to understand the workings and also fixed a few teething problems!! Lovely enough site. One thing though about the site. It is IMPORTANT. The instructions given on a small slip of paper for the local walk through the woodland to the nearest pub are at best, dubious. And not very clear AT ALL. We took a wrong turn. And got lost for an hour. Never found the pub. The woodland is vast. Met three other couples after an hour who had the same experience. One of them was lost for 2 hours. Everyone was confused and nobody found either a road or a pub. This is NOT GOOD. As two women we felt VERY vulnerable having veered off the main paths. We are experienced enough to have taken a phone, asked for help etc. but others may not. Since the directions say ‘20 minute forest walk’. I can’t emphasize enough that we and others feel the directions need to be reviewed. It’s a big worry given our experience and that of others.
Friendly welcome from all the staff, choice of plots, which were spacious. A secure exit and entry and very clean site and facilities, nice warm toilet / shower block. Lovely play area for children. Although we didn't use the regular 'food trucks' on this occasion there was a good variety. Grandkids loved it and well placed for so many fantastic and different attractions, especially Portsmouth Dockyard.
We have recently returned from another very enjoyable 5 night stay at Rookesbury Park. The site is immaculate with very friendly and helpful wardens. Super dog walk for our Tess to roam and direct access to the Forest of Bere which has many footpaths and is a lovely walking area. Just 2 points on the down side I would mention, one is that the water in the wash up area is not hot enough to clean greasy plates etc. I would say it is about 40C which is OK for the hand wash basins and showers in the toilet blocks. However, the sinks in the wash up area are marked 'very hot water' but it is not. Water for washing up dishes needs to be 60C to effectively wash greasy dishes, it would save having to wash up twice to get them clean. The 2nd point is regarding the visiting Hungry Hog Van. We were very disappointed with the quality which was strips of shredded meat in a bun, not at all pleasant, despite some people apparently liking it.
I live in a flat with my dog so booked to stay for the weekend so we could enjoy the outdoors in this glorious weather. The last minute booking was based on location and availability but it turns out the site is absolutely fabulous.
Right from check in on a busy Friday evening the staff were friendly and helpful and managed check ins smoothly and efficiently making each guest feel welcome.
SIte facilities were clean and plentiful....... no queueing for the shower at busy times.
Access to the woods was through a gate directly from the site, there is a lovely pub only a short walk away..... and the fish and chip van (and various other food retails I believe) visited the site too!
Plenty of places for the dog to 'exercise' on site as well as a designated dog field were he could safely run around off lead.
Everything was perfect for what I wanted and I will be back.
First review and I not sure I should review this site as it is another very positive one, this means it may be difficult to get a booking when we want to go back which we will. The staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough for us and have the arrival process sorted the best I have experienced so far on a club site. Two very cheerful persons are on the gate to welcome you and give you the information you need to find a pitch and get yourself set up, no hurry they know you are coming and have a sheet which they mark off to make it easy, they opened the gate we went round site found a pitch set up and returned to the office to "fully book in" with pitch number.
The shop/reception staff asked to see my membership card and I paid and recived the electronic gate key to raise the barrier as required. The shop is small but very well stocked and lots of local produce bread cakes milk etc all at reasonable prices, sometimes you feel in the shop that they can be quite high but not here and I forgot quite a few things this time, so visited it a few times thank you. Had fish and chips Friday night best I had for years.
All through our stay the site staff were polite the site is spotless and there is always someone around doing something to maintain this faultless level of excellence.
The site final approach road is a bit skinny and the first turn can be a bit tight so swing wide especially with a big van, but if everyone going out is off site by 1200hrs and don't arrive before 1300hrs the road is almost one way there are some pull ins and the approach is quite steep but manageable. Stayed for two night in August during the heat wave and will be back for a longer stay thank you.
I don't normally write reviews but felt I needed too the site was lovely and quiet very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble
it is definitely a site if you love a long walk there were so many routes to take and places to explore it was excellent
Just spent 2 nights here and will definitely comeback. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Fabulous walks and bike rides nearby. We had a lovely time. Thanks to everyone onsite.
Spent three nights at this beautiful, peaceful site in July 2022. Very friendly staff. Loved the converted wooden pallets which now house a selection of herbs. Huge field to excercise dog. Lovely forty minute walk through woodland and along the Meon Valley cycle/ foot path into Wickham. Cannot fault it.
As regulars to this site we stayed for 19 nights this time including during the heatwave. The hard working wardens excelled themselves this time in particular. First 2 wardens were moved to another site that was short staffed, another warden was taken to hospital very poorly & another warden was still suffering after a site accident before the season even started. To cap it all their computer system was off line for several days. Despite all this & working in the heatwave everything was kept spotlessly clean, all their jobs were completed, campers numerous problems sorted out & all with a smile on their faces & a cheerful word for everyone.
The site is lovely & peaceful except at weekends & during school holidays but even then it doesn’t become intrusive. There is now a catering wagon 3 or 4 nights each week, we recommend the hog roast on Tuesdays & sometimes Sunday too, Tacos on Thursdays (our particular favourite), the regular fish & chips on Fridays & pizza on Saturdays though we haven’t sampled the last one.
We can’t wait to return once the school holidays are over.
