Good for families

Ideal for nature lovers and walkers

We arrived at the site and were warmly greeted by the wardens, despite it being a little later in the day. They were very welcoming and gave us lots of useful information about the area and the walks available. The site itself is very tidy and the washrooms were clean and of very good standard. Lots of hot water! There is a nature sightings board which we tried to add to every day and some pots of herbs that were available to use. A really nice touch. The site is situated by a river and there are notices about being careful by the bank (especially children) and the dog walk goes this way. It was good for a short stroll with the dogs. A minutes walk from the site is a nature reserve and this gives a longer walk around two lakes, also good for dogs - they do need to be on leads around one of the lakes. Lots of bird life and flowers about. Further afield there are great walks - we walked to Ingram, stopped in for lunch at the tea shop and walked back over the hill. This was about 6 miles (limited due to an old dog!) but could be extended to see the interesting archeology (hill forts etc). We also drove to the coast and visited Bamburgh Castle and some other areas, so much to do! Our only mistake was driving through Alnwick and omitting to see the height signs until we got to the low arch and we had to do a three point turn in the middle of the High Street! Be warned! A great site that we will definitely return to.
