We normally stay on CLs for the peace and quiet and price. This year we went to Scotland to stop on a CL but found our water heater had died. We quickly checked out and into the Blair Drummond Affiliated Site, where the site was busy but where showers would save us from 2 weeks of ripeness! The site was good, but nothing special. Eventually we decided to return to East Sussex, breaking the journey at Northumberland. What a great decision! An early start saw us arrive at River Breamish by 1pm. The staff were just so welcoming, both on the phone and in person. We quickly took the pitch of our choice and enjoyed visiting nearby Alnwick and Alnmouth. What a superb area! A forgotten place, since Mr Google sends most people north to Scotland via the M6. Go via the A1 and stop over in Northumberland at River Breamish for a few days. The site is beautifully set out and the showers are to die for. Wonderful clean facilities on a site surrounded by a nature reserve. Next day we visited Lindisfarne and Bamburgh Castle but in the evening couldn't find a suitable chippy. Low and behold, when we returned to River Breamish there was a chippy van on site (Mondays). No disappointments at all. Next time we will stay for a week or two, walking in the nearby Cheviots and along the fabulous coast.
