Our first visit

This site is in a stunning location with views right across the valley. The only downside is the noise from the A66 that continues all night so earplugs could be needed! The shower blocks are spotless and nearly new and the wardens are very friendly with lots of good advice. We purchased a local walk map from them for 20p and it was the best money I spent. The walk was an 11 mile loop along the valley past some stunning houses, pubs and old castles and even went via a stop off at Mainsgill Barn with an excellent cream tea! The Angel pub in the village is less than a mile from the site and after a recommendation from the warden we gave it a try and were not disappointed. The beer and food were excellent and there was a log burner to warm the room as well. The town of Richmond is about 3 miles away but it is worth a visit with a nice market square, a decent chippy and walks along the river. My son was also happy as the site had a ball games area, rather than a play area, where he could practice his football. Overall this was an excellent stay with plenty to do for a few days so it deserves more than a stopover if you plan to visit.
