Lovely site - good location but very peaceful

We stayed here during the last weekend of October '17. Having approached from the West, we misinterpreted the directions and took the first turning to Gilling West. Ignore this turning and take the second turning signposted Gilling West. I felt the directions had poor punctuation which meant we misinterpreted them. However, we drove to the bottom of the hill, turned left and came back up on the correct road! The site itself is excellent however. Just the right size. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Close to the A66 but all of the hardstanding pitches are far enough away from the road to not make it an issue. If you're awake you can hear it but we live in a quiet area at home and none of us had any trouble sleeping. The site is in quite an exposed location so can get quite windy. The toilet blocks are not secure and with its close proximity to the A66, my wife did feel uncomfortable at night using the toilet block, especially as it is round the back of the building out of sight of the majority of the pitches. This could easily be remedied by adding proximity card sensors to the external toilet block doors as are in use to enter the site through the barrier. There is a small enclosed grass area for children along with a small cabin full of information leaflets. Richmond is a short drive away and we had a nice meal at The Town Hall Public House one evening. We will definitely return.
