Convenient Hub but very noisy

As a base for touring this beautiful area or a stopover you cannot fault it. The site is very clean and the wardens are great. Sadly we had a foggy wet day so that always brings the shortcomings into sharp focus. We had booked a pitch without awning as we had a motorhome. Big mistake! These pitches are understandably kept at the top of the site adjacent to the A66 (100 yards). This is a busy dual carriageway that operates with heavy lorries all night. Solution - take earplugs (the club should issue these free at check in instead of denying the problem). The lower pitches with awnings (fully booked) I doubt have the same problem. If you have a motor home be aware that the pitch slopes diagonally making it difficult to get near level. If you like walking directly off a site be aware that there are no footpaths nearby and all roads carry high speed traffic. The buses are only every two hours but do stop directly outside the gate. I guess my memories would have been better if we had been blessed with good weather to enjoy the beautiful views across the valley and get around more. So be prepared but don't be put off.
