CMC at its best

Lets get the negative out of the way. There is no escaping the 24/7 drone from traffic on the A66 and to a lesser extent, the A1M. It didn't bother us though. The site is easy to find and the new stretch of the A1M is brilliant. Booking in was hassle free and the wardens advised us of the best pitches. Wi-fi was good. There are a few grass pitches but most pitches are more or less level hard standing with great views. Toilet block has been refurbished to a good CMC standard although perhaps a little more inspiration in the design and layout would not have gone amiss. There is an excellent motorhome service point at the top level. There is a grass play area and good information point. There is an occasional bus that you can flag down right outside the site. The buses go to Richmond and Darlington. Richmond is worth a look but the streets are steep and the town centre cobbled in parts. The Yorkshire Dales are on the door step whilst the North York Moors are almost as close - try the motorhome friendly drive over the B1257 between Stokesley and Helmsley or Sedbergh to Leyburn on the A684 [we took the A66 to Penrith, down the A6 and M1 to pick up the A684]. There are a couple of decent pubs in Gilling West but the walk back up is steep and the pavement-less road is used as a back door to Richmond in the rush hour. Took a walk over to Melsonby [A66 surprisingly easy to cross of you are able bodied and patient]. From the hill just outside the village you can see the Transporter Bridge at Middlesbrough - only found this out when I uploaded my photos! We'll be back.
