Excellent site but....

Lovely area. Lots to see and do. Walking in area very good. Wardens very friendly. Clean and well kept. However, quite noisy at times - can hear A30 at times and several noisy dogs (and we have a dog - who is kept quiet!). Some ? members do not seem to understand 5mph signs or to have any regard for others - see also dogs! Wi fi, as stated in another review, and acknowledged by warden, is dire. Writing this has taken ages : mainly through waiting for pages to load (frequent 'cannot load' messages but then loads!). If I were paying £10 per month for this service at home, let alone £10 for a week's access, I would be changing supplier! But overall a nice site in a nice place with good wardens.

Lovely Area but a bit crowded onsite

This is a great area to visit with lots of lovely towns, villages, beaches and countryside all around. Onsite, there are a lot of pitches squeezed in and you can feel a little crowded especially with the number of tall trees and hedges. You may also need heavy duty leveling blocks for wheels and steadies as some pitches slope a lot! Not really a problem as long as you expect it before you arrive. Toilets are spotless and site is kept very tidy. Wardens are out most days cutting and trimming to keep it all in order. WiFi is dreadful even if you are next to an aerial. Google took about 30 seconds to load let alone get any searching done. I gave up in the end. TV signal via an aerial is good, but Satellite will depend on your pitch because of the tall trees. Lastly there is quite a bit of aircraft traffic which flies quite low directly above the site on the way to Exeter. Not too noisy but again if you expect it you wont be surprised.

Cracking Wardens

Can't speak too highly of the wardens at Putts Corner, always there, friendly, kind, helpful and put themselves out for you. I left equipment on the pitch when leaving and a prompt call to my mobile whilst en route home to Worcester saved me a long trek back when they told me what I had done. Thanks Debbie and Keith.....you're stars. Shade from trees can be an issue for certain pitches on this site whilst others get the sun all day. It's a matter of choosing wisely when arriving!! Also the Wi-fi could be so much better whereas the TV signal is the best so far encountered on any CC site. The local pub, The Hare and Hounds does a cracking carver and menu and you should not be disappointed. The £1 discount on main meals for CC members is also helps to enjoyment. Discount cards are available at Reception. Local buses run via the Hare and Hounds pub into Sidmouth and Honiton and Exeter and Exmouth are also accessible. Buses are clean but punctuality for us was a little erratic due to the density of traffic particularly around Sidmouth. Taken in your stride this should not be a problem. Toilet blocks are immaculate as is the site generally. Go enjoy.

MISLEADING description in Directory

This site has a considerable slope on it, matching the road that runs alongside. The wardens even say it is a big slope that is steeper than it looks. To accommodate as many pitches as could be crammed in over half are terraced and also slope. Some are quite gloomy due to the excessive number of high trees, and a couple of pitches near reception get little rivers running through them whenever it rains, which is quite often in Devon. We had booked a fully serviced pith for our stay from 13 to 20 May. On arrival and after paying we were directed to the area where all the serviced pitches are with the words "any one of these" pointing at the site plan. We drove up a not inconsiderable slope on a narrow road, sharp left and sharp left again and there were the pitches - all full save number 79 in the immediate right hand corner surrounded with a 5 foot high hedge and a huge tree overhanging. There was a drop of at least 4 foot to the next pitch and this slope was so steep that steps had been installed to get to the services. The slope meant that all the space available was a chipping surfaced area just over 7.5 meters wide and if we had placed the van where we were told to then there was no room for the awning. One of the male wardens came and advised moving the van so we could erect the awning but with the hedge and retaining wall we could not see out of it nor open the front panels. I had previously contacted the site and spoke to one of the female wardens about my medical needs but got no help whatsoever. If they had been honest and said how poor the pitch was I would have cancelled. On top of this the Wi-Fi is next to useless unless in or next to reception; a lot of the aerials are now hidden in trees and therefore useless! I contacted the club to express my disappointment and concerns and received a telephone call from the area manager who acknowledged there was a problem with the Wi-Fi and that during the refurbishment last year one of the drains from the top amenities block was damaged and this now blocks every couple of days with toilet bowls overflowing. At the end of the season the plan is to dig up the existing drains and replace with new. However, he refused to accept my argument regarding pitch 79 saying that it is acceptable to say a pitch is usable with an awning even if you can't use the front or see out of it. If any one wants one, I can send a photo of just how ridiculous the pitch is. 'm sorry this review is so negative, but I have to say that in all my years caravaning round the UK and Europe this site has been the most disappointing.

Pleasant week

This is the second time we have visited this site. The new toilet block is a major improvement.  The site is well located within easy reach of a number of nice places and enjoyable walks.  If we had young children the disadvantage is that the local beaches are a drive but Exmouth is sandy and kept clean. Budleigh Salterton is stony but attractive and Sidmouth is a nice place with a reasonable beach. Now having a dog we look for sites with walks nearby.  The woods provide a good opportunity for exercise but the dog walk needs fencing off from the road and site like the one at Chirk. The wifi signal wasn't very good so choose your pitch carefully if you want to use it. It's a lovely site but be prepared for flights to Exeter Airport but they aren't too bad. The pub in walking distance is excellent.

Excellent Site

We spent a week at Putts Corner in April, our first visit and certainly not the last. The site is well set out and the new Amenity Block is excellent - well done Club designers. The Wardens were the very best we have found and could not have been more helpful. Great location for visiting East Devon and the weather was wonderful. If there is a criticism it relates to the "How to find us" in the Sites Directory. They are overcomplicated and would be better if the words from "at T-junc ...." to "A375 (sp Sidmouth)" were omitted. Just follow A375 would be quite sufficient

Lovely

This was our first time on a Caravan Club site and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The site was well run, clean and tidy. We were close to the older toilet block but it was very clean and warm and the water temperature was adjustable and was always hot enough. The washing up facilities were outside at this location (indoor at the new block) and whether it was that or Health and Safety as a fellow washer up told me, I could have done with hotter water here although that is a minor complaint. I did read some reviews that suggested the road noise was intrusive - well I have to say I never heard a thing. The only noise I was really aware of was bird song and that was gorgeous to wake up to! Lots of bird feeders around for those twitchers out there. The site was well placed for exploring from and although I never had any, I understand the fish and chips was superb - one portion would be enough for 2 apparently!
