A lovely site, better perhaps for caravans

I was only here one night on this occasion as a stopover. I had been once before, but way back in August 2011 when the site was new, or at least my diary states that it was new! This time around it was not how I remembered it, but it was busy, due I gather to evacuation of Chatsworth, and the time before it had been quiet – odd for August but perhaps largely undiscovered.

It is a very pleasant site, but better I think for caravaners than motorhomers. There are lots of places to visit round and about few of which are easily accessed by public transport. Locally, there is not really that much of interest and the town of Staveley is pretty grotty.

I did not use the facilities this time, but they are modern, unusual in style, and in 2011 I recorded that they were superb. The site was generally well kept. There are some walks in the country park, but sadly my visit was at the tail end of the hideous storms and thus the paths were very muddy; this is anathema to me, so my walking was limited.

Strangely, I could not get any TV other than unwatchable, intermittent, broken reception; I cannot remember the last time I failed to get any meaningful TV reception. I think it was at Morvich 30 years ago in analogue days! I have a transmitter finding app and a compass and I tried every option given and every aerial position all to no avail. I am making myself sound desperate, but it was not a major issue. Others plainly succeeded so I cannot explain this. Perhaps I was just in some kind of dead position (pitch 45). The leaflet given by the site states that TV is best tuned to South Yorkshire, but this is useless information; you need to know the transmitter to use.
