A site with a view!!!

We visit this part of the West Country most summers at some time and decided to give the Plymouth Sound site a try even though we normally like to have a shower block where we are staying as we knew the location is special even though the approach road is tricky for the last couple of miles. Our visit coincided with the Plymouth Firework competition which we watched from the site and were able to see the aerial fireworks over the Staddon Heights hill. Yes, the approach is tricky for a few hundred yards, but the location when you get there is well worth it for the stunning views from the site. The wardens are so hard working and show you the available pitches when you arrive so you can maximise the view from what is available. The dog walk is good and the field alongside it for children to play looked nice. Bovisand Beach at the bottom of the lane is dog friendly and there is a cafe in the chalet park that you can get a drink from before the slightly steep walk back to the site. The National Trust run Saltram House is a short drive from the site and has lovely walks alongside the Plym estuary. We didn't eat there, but did stop for a drink at the local Mussel Inn, it looked nice but found the drinks expensive so could be hard on the pocket to visit? There are so many things to do in the area so recommend you try this site with lovely views over Plymouth Sound.

For a proper view you would need to drive down to Jenny Cliff or walk from the coast path towards Plymouth at Bovisand round to the diving school to look over the Hoe. We had a good view of the Navy Day displays from Jenny Cliff but it can get very busy, get there early.

Plymouth Sound site looks over the sound and out towards Rame Head, not Plymouth itself which is just out of view from the site.
