A great site for getting away from it all.
A great site for getting away from it all. Although the site has no toilet or shower block – there is a brand-new motorhome service point and excellent chemical disposal facility. This site is kept immaculately by the wardens and all pitches are grass with some of them being sloping and some suffering from bogginess so pick your pitch carefully and don’t get stuck if the rain arrives. There are some lovely walks in the lanes and a steep walk down to a beautiful beach with lovely cafe and public toilets. Also there are some great cycle rides one of which goes to the nearby National Trust coastal reserve. There is no charge for entry. The little hamlet of Down Thomas has a great local pub called The Mussel Inn and whilst we didn’t sample the food or drink it does have an excellent reputation and is within five minutes walk at the site – as is a good local shop and bus stop which provides a direct route into Plymouth but be careful because the service operates only one trip in and one trip back each day.
Also whilst the bus drops you are off in the centre of Plymouth – the bus stop for returning is in a completely different place – namely Embankment Road which is the place from where all buses seem to leave. We were mis-directed by our bus driver and it took us half an hour to find the return Stop!
We found TV reception for a satellite system to be excellent as was BT mobile phone signal. A great place to stay.
