Good site in lovely area
I enjoyed a five night stay at Pembrey in early July; the site is bigger than I had expected and some of the grass pitches looked to me a bit random and in one or two places somewhat close to hard standings. I began by choosing pitch 52 but finding a grass pitched van closer than the plan would suggest it should have been, and finding the outlook to be nothing better than a large and rather boring hedge, I decided it was a bad choice. There was surprisingly few hard standings available, given that it was still only about 12:30 on a Friday, but nevertheless I found a much better pitch with a lovely open aspect. On reading the forums one often sees the comment that it makes no difference what pitch you are on! This is palpable nonsense. It is often the difference between an enjoyable stay and a rotten one!
Having explored the site and the surroundings, I decided I really liked it here. The wardens that I met were friendly and helpful, the site is well designed and the hard standings in the situation where I had settled looked quite new and the road recently resurfaced. The loo block was excellent. Those who complain about regimented sites should like this place. The location is lovely too being a nice walk to the huge beach through the country park.
For motorhomers like myself, who like to stay put once pitched, it is easy to reach Burry Port on a cycle along the very flat coastal path. From here one can catch trains to all the Welsh towns on the south coast east and west. It is a 20 minute walk from the site to the nearest bus. I met up with friends who live not far from the site in the lovely estuary village of Ferryside. I am not sure I would have come this far into west Wales otherwise but I am very glad I did. The countryside is lovely, the site a delight (if a little busy), and all in all I found this a very good place to be.
