Fabulous site in a wonderful position

You really can't find fault in this site. It has everything that you expect from a CAMC site, but the position is something else. You have access to a pathway that runs all the way along the coast for about 18 miles which you can cycle along or walk. It's mostly flat and very well laid out and takes you all the way to a bird sanctuary. In the other direction is the Pembrey Country Park where you can walk for miles. The beach is accessible via the Park and is magnificent and extremely clean. This site is a MUST visit for it's position alone. We didn't eat out so cannot comment, but there are so many towns and villages within close proximity that you are certain to find something you like. With regard to the bins, well its not too much bother to walk to the gate with your rubbish, so no complaints from us.

Halloween

Visited with my daughter and niece in my motorhome. Lovely friendly greeting from all staff and chatted to Dave the Warden as I was setting up. This lovely (flat), sheltered & pretty site to our joy had been decorated for Halloween! Dave mentioned there would be a 'walk through the graveyard*' in Halloween costumes later with a prize for the best outfit and this would be followed by some music and hot dogs and mulled wine (for a very reasonable fee of £1.50). We were delighted - but readily admit that despite the fact we had parked opposite, hadn't noticed either the graveyard or poor Eric** (who had found himself in something of a tangle in a nearby tree), until 2 hours after arrival! (Note to fellow travellers, do NOT rely on us for observational skills or emergency aid when we are erecting our awning... and yes, it took us 2 hours - oh how we laughed!!). We had mentioned to Dave that we would indeed be delighted to attend and would be dressing in our onesies - he insisted that we could just come as we were, but we planned on walking through some local woods after so wanted to be suitably dressed... We attended the Halloween Hoola later that evening (early enough for children to enjoy the experience but dark enough to be fun) and enjoyed seeing that so many adults and children had dressed up. We of course, looked ridiculous but that was the point. After the children had their costume & dance competition, the three of us were asked if we would like to do a dance for the gathering. Well, how could we refuse! I fear that Mamma Mia will never be the same for all those who were there... and children were suitably horrified - it seems that 3 grown women in onsies dancing to Mamma Mia is a lot more horrifying than anything the horror channel can produce. However, we were rewarded with a glass of mulled wine which was super. The staff here were just fantastic. We had a wonderful time and will be returning (if they let us!). The site is clean and tidy and really well appointed. Yes the bins are at the front, but it really isn't far to walk wherever you are on site and it is very close to the toilet block. We were allowed to stay a little later after normal checkout because it took as long to take the blasted awning down as it did to put it up! I will get better though. Probably. Was surprised that despite the windy weather, we hardly felt it on our pitch as it was so sheltered. Great all season pitches too! *created by the staff ** tastefully done

First time here.

We visited this site for the first time in September and were impressed by the layout and variety of the pitches. The location is excellent with easy access to the endless beach and the natural facilities of the country park. The wardens were most helpful in assisting us to move pitch to one that suited us better the morning after our arrival and were very friendly throughout. This was one of four sites were visited on our tour of S. Wales and we noted the move to centralised waste collection at them all. Although this is slightly less convenient than the old system of bins at every service point it is very much the norm on Continental sites and not really a major problem as it can be dropped off each time you exit the site if a special trip is too much exercise for you! Would certainly visit this site again when touring S. Wales in the future and recommend it to both families and we oldies.

Cleaning times

This is lovely site right next to the country park. I have to complain about the times the cleaning is carried out at the toilet/shower block at 10.30 to 12, this is a ridiculous time as this is when most people want to use the facilities, I have been to other CMC sites and most do their cleaning in the afternoon when everyone is out for the day. Also the bins and recycling are not by the taps anymore but there are big euro/biffa bins by reception. A van comes round every morning selling milk etc a good idea but please don't beep the horn at 9 as some like to lay in on a weekend after working all week.

West is Best

Been to Pembrey several times over the years and as always it never disappoints. Facilities were fully open and up to the usual club standards, a little walk to the reception for recycling and rubbish disposal became part of the daily routine and no issues with doing this. Fabulous time spent walking on the beautiful beach every day which is spotlessly clean and seems to go on for ever, it was like having your own private beach at times as it was so quiet during the week. Wardens were all friendly and welcoming although I completely understand any frustration they must have with arrivals ignoring the 1pm time as every day despite there being a very obvious sign at the site entrance ( and clearly stated on the pre arrivals emails) there were people coming at least an hour earlier than this. Keep up the great work you have a lovey site in a beautiful place and we will definitely return.

Won’t be going back

This was the most unfriendly family experience I have ever been on. The male warden is confrontational, very rude Told us we were to early and suggested to come back later, we turned our car and caravan around in quiet a tight spot and then he proceeded in shouting at us for speeding, he then told us that he had the right to remove us from the site immediately, We have been coming to this site for many years and never ever been treated like this before it was appalling, We came home early as we didn’t feel welcome at all and thanks to the warden we will never ever go back

Good visit as usual but a few gripes this time

We have been visiting Pembrey for decades and love the site and the park. We’ve taken our children and now our grandchildren. They love it. The biking through the woods and on the beach is great and there are no crowds. There’s a good bike route along the coast to Burry Port which is well worth a visit. In the summer there are lots of children on site and they all make friends and have a great time. Several sites now have food outlets on various nights and the Pizza van on Friday and Saturday here was very good – we recommend. Unfortunately there are some gripes this time. Dogs! Maybe there are lots of new members who don’t know the rules or just don’t care but dogs are supposed to be under control and taken off site for walks and toilet, not led to the nearest bit of grass and allowed to mess. Clearing it up is not the point; children play here and it’s unacceptable. Refuse. As we’ve read in reviews, you now have to take all your rubbish to the front gate area of the site, where you can segregate it for recycling. The bins are large with heavy lids making it difficult for some people to lift a lid and put rubbish in at the same time. When I asked a warden what the rationale was for changing the system, I was told it was to do with there being a lot of rubbish – 150 bags was mentioned – hypodermic needles - the bags are heavy - “health and safety”, etc. It sounded to me as though the wardens just didn’t want to do it anymore. It was inconvenient as rather than take bits and pieces frequently to the local bins, you tend to let it mount up to make the journey worthwhile, so rubbish is hanging around for maybe several days. Some people even needed to take the car to dispose of it. Hardly progress and it just isn’t rational as now all the rubbish has to be hand-carried (by customers) to the front gate instead of being towed in bulk bins by small tractor. The smaller toilet block was still permanently closed so facilities are not “fully open”; don’t know why as the site was full. That said, we will of course visit again as the location is great but the Club needs to get these things sorted.

disappointing reception on arriving before 1.00 pm

With Covid restrictions lifted we incorrectly assumed that the arrival time had reverted to 12.00 noon. We were instructed to turn our twin axle caravan around and proceed back out of the site with extreme difficulty due to the inadequate turning space, even though there would have been ample room had the warden deigned to move a few traffic cones which was sealing off a parking area. Not being able to check in until 1.00 pm is very inconvenient for hungry children, many of whom have sat in the back of a car for a few hours travelling to the site. Only the main toilet block was open even though the Welsh Government announcement on 6 August stated that All internal shared facility areas, including toilet and shower blocks. etc would be open. The site was full, which would indicate that the facilities provided were inadequate. Very shocked to see many dogs off leads and dogs being allowed to defecate anywhere on the site and also on grassed areas where young children play hide-and-seek etc. We have been taking children to Pembrey regularly for six years and am saddened to have to make these negative comments.

My experience

This is a fabulous site - ideally located for cycling, walking, beach, castles and driving to stunning places such as Saundersfoot, Mumbles and Tenby. I read earlier reviews which were not so great, though I thought this site is as good as any other site of similar location. Yes, it attracts families so children playing can create some noise. Some families seemed to stay on site for large parts of the day. I was a little worried by the number of children cycling around the place and even some adults flying by on electric scooters at some speed and at night. Luckily we found a pitch on a quieter section of the site which was mainly occupied by adults. It's the grassed areas that seem to attract families. I also read another review who said that several vans/MH were arriving and trying to reserve pitches before they had fully checked in. I caught sight of such activity AND even saw a caravan being driven right across several pitches to take a short cut to a vacant pitch they had spotted...the route they took was clearly not correct and would contravene driving 'rules' and compromise safety. Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was peaceful and pleasant on our pitch and we watched others with some amusement at times! I'm sure we will return. Oh, and having to take your rubbish to the bins at the front of the site is not a problem at all. Those who winge about this are probably those who would benefit from some exercise! It's also probably better to have rubbish away from the pitches....more sites should do this. Thank you to all the wardens! Keep up the good work. From a grateful couple.
