Armed with our English Heritage and National Trust cards, we embarked on our tour of the North East of England, and where better to start than the Old Hartley site. We received a warm and friendly reception from the wardens, and after a quick set up and a cuppa taking in the marvelous views from our pitch (13, but would imagine all have good views), we walked the coastal path towards Whitley Bay and visited St Mary’s lighthouse. Thankfully we had booked Sunday lunch at the Delaval Arms, which is a popular pub, and the food was delicious. There is too much to do and see in the local area that our short trip would allow, so we will be back.
