Great for events in Newcastle
This was our second stay at Old Hartley. This time it was as a base for us to attend two Rugby World Cup games at St. James Park, Newcastle. We were surrounded by avid New Zealand & Scottish supporters in their hired motorhomes, which was fun!
The site does feel a bit cramped at times but the general slope means that most people will get some sort of coastal view.
Again the wardens were most helpful and, even though they were the “relief” wardens, they were still knowledgeable about the area. All the facilities were what you would expect of a Caravan Club “main” site.
The local bus service was as efficient as before and Haymarket in the city centre was reached in under an hour. There are two providers and, if buying a day return, you must use the same one. i.e. the tickets aren’t interchangeable between bus companies.
When we previously visited we didn’t realise that the NCN 1 cycle route ran right past the site entrance. This then gives access to a mainly traffic free route northwards towards Blyth in amongst the dunes and Whitley Bay & beyond to the south.
