Fantastic Views

We managed to book a couple of nights on this site during our tour of the northeast, despite the online booking system saying it was full; a phone call to the site revealed spaces. What a gem, the views from any pitch are lovely and you can see and walk out to the lighthouse, the pitches are not spacious but adequate - we only have a motorhome to park so not tight for us. The whole site slopes down towards the cliff edge so chocks may well be necessary, we didn't need any and were reasonable level. All are hardstandings, just a rectangle for the caravan/motorhome and most access is on grass. Manouvering a caravan on maybe tricky without a power mover (never tried towing!). The only shower and toilet block is small and the shower cubicles narrow and the water warm rather than hot, not many showers but at least an equal number of privacy cubicles. Handwashing area in the ladies friendly and using the hand driers blocks the 'corridor' at the entrance. All immaculately clean. Much to explore in the area but we chose our visit as 'chill' time and only walked to the lighthouse a couple of times, saw lots of seals basking on the rocks and dolphins feeding. Walked along the cliffs to Seaton Sluice, nice walk, lovely beach and dunes. Had a drink in the Kings Head, lots of outdoor seating which we made use of as the sun showed its face. We just missed food as they finished serving at 5pm on Sunday. The wardens, just two of them, do a great job and were very friendly, the garden - especially the lighthouse was a credit to them. It must be very difficult to fit everything they need to do into their working day but they do and always wear a smile. We bought eggs and can honestly say they were delicious. It's a long way from home but I expect we'll be back and we didn't get to Whitley Bay let alone Newcastle.
