What a lovely site.

We stayed here for four nights in August 21 and could not fault it. The wardens were friendly and really helpful with info and getting set up. The pitches are sloping to some degree but they really helped us as inexperienced caravanners. Site is peaceful with gorgeous views and facilities are spotless. Couldn't ask for more and will definitely return.

Beautiful view

The relief wardens were there when we stayed for a few days, they were lovely. The view from the site is stunning and the walks along the cliffs and lovely too.

Loved the views and the walks

The views and walks were amazing from this site and we can’t wait to return. You can walk for miles along this beautiful coastline. As this was a one night stopover for us we walked to Seaton Sluice the first day and had a delicious tea from the popular chip shop, Harbour View. It was the best veggie burger I’ve had. The next morning we walked into Whitley Bay, along a great promenade. There were quite a few pubs that we passed and we noticed lots of buses close by if you want to travel further. We were on pitch 31 and luckily there was a micro caravan in front of us so we had a great view of the island. The only negative for us was the closeness of the pitches. We are used to spacious CL pitches so this felt a little crowded, particularly as we were right next to the road with people regularly walking past us. It was nice to have the toilet block which we sometimes don’t have on CLS. We are looking forward to our next visit at the end of the season.

Great location and friendly staff

This was our first long stay at a site and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The site is on a slope so we had to level up our can but the location on the cliff top overlooking the lighthouse was more than worth it. Great local walks, handy located pub, Co-op and bus stop and the local fish and chips were even better than their reputation. A great base for exploring Northumberland!

A hidden gem of a site

The first visit to the site and was only for one night but was very impressed. The views are amazing and the facilities are clean and there is everything we needed. Information from the wardens was spot on (especially the chip shop down the road). Will definitely stay on the site again!

2 night stop travelling back from NC500

Stopped here to break up our return from NC500 & to review for future reference. Impressive views & access to coastal paths making easy access to Whitley Bay & Seaton Sluice. Bus stop nearby with a 10/15 minute service which is ideal for the less abled. Some amazing ice creams to be found in town & the fish & chips recommended in your info pack are 'spot on'. Portions are huge! Wardens very friendly & helpful. Pitches are mainly sloping & even with levelling blocks you won't get it perfect..... caravans may cope better. Great place for a few days. We stayed 21/22 June.

Great relaxing stay

Stayed at Old Hartley site 12th July for four nights a lovely quiet relaxing stay lots of lovely coastal walks and scenery nice easy bike rides, local co op store only a short walk away, Seaton Sluice and St Mary's Island very close by and a lovely rocky beach at Collywell Bay. The site wardens where helpful and friendly we had great views of St Mary's Island and the sea from our pitch we will definitely be going back again. Our only comment would be to update the shower block other than that perfect stay with great weather.

Stunning Location

1st visit to this site. Managed to get pitch 59 facing the lighthouse, brilliant view. Took some levelling despite looking not bad. Some evening and early noise from adjacent car park, minor. Great bike route, cycled to Tynemouth, about 8 miles each way all safe route mostly off road. Blyth nearer, again great new tracks and a gelato shop! Sun shone was like being abroad...well nearly. Site loo block basic, showers have no curtains or benches, 2 hooks. Still your clothes get washed along with you! Overall fab. Our last night it poured and the wind got up. Think bbqs rolling past. The price of the views from the cliff is very exposed in wind. Book in good weather!

Dolphins!

A fantastic site for sea views and walking. St Mary’s lighthouse and causeway are always worth a visit and a walk along the seashore to Whitley Bay is always great. Alerted by a fellow camper we were lucky enough to see a dozen dolphin “ surfing” in front of a passing fishing vessel. We also both thought we saw a couple of killer whales about 150m closer to shore but questioned ourselves , however a “ google” did reveal a pod has been sighted off the Northumberland coast so we are now certain. A lovely, in touch with nature, stay. We cycled on Route 1 up to Amble and return (55miles) but highly recommend.

Enjoyable stay

This was our first visit to Old Hartley Caravan site. We had a warm welcome and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We did not have a pitch marker and the lady at reception kindly put a cone on our pitch for us whilst we went to visit our daughter. Our daughter was not allowed on site due to covid but the staff recommended the car park just down the lane which overlooks the sea and is free, we parked our camper and had a cuppa together. There is a very nice walk from the car park to St Mary's Lighthouse, take some binoculars so you can see the seals. The site is lovely and clean and quiet, we had an excellent nights sleep. We have managed to book another weekend in July. 😀
