Very disappointed with our stay, the layout lent itself to it being used as a cycle race track by unsupervised children. Felt very uncomfortable, just waiting for someone to come cannoning into our van - or worse get hit by a car (we were only there for 2 nights in bad weather and saw one very very near miss with a car and a child on a bike - it made us wince, and the car was not at all to blame). Loud site at times - we were lucky weather was bad or it could have been a whole lot worse. Dogs mess abounds at back of van where hook-up cables go.
Not a site for relaxing on, or up to usual club standards / rules
As other reviewers have said, the site is immaculate, pitches are a good size, location is good and Ludham is lovely. However, I have marked down the peace and quiet rating because some dog owners are simply not in control of their dogs, regardless of whether they are on the leash. Three pitches near us had dogs who barked every single time another dog went past and one it seems, when anything, car, bike or pedestrian went by. How can it be acceptable to make your neighbours endure this? I do not know if the wardens expected to police this?
I think it should be clearly stated that owners must ensure their dogs are properly trained before bringing them on site or in the event of this level of nuisance, should be asked to leave.
We used our own facilities on board so cannot comment on showers etc. We would definitely go back but hopefully at a 'quieter' time!
This is our second visit here and we will be back again. Considering it was August it was reasonably quiet in the evenings. Walked along the river to How Hill (about 45 minutes) but unfortunately tea shop was closed though gardens and secret gardens were lovely. Also walked along the other way along the river to the Abbey ruins which was a circular walk back to the site.
Visited the little fruit & veg hut just up the road too near the pub for some good priced fresh veg.
A gem of a site just a short walk from Ludham Bridge. Site wardens were lovely and clearly work very hard to keep the site in immaculate condition. Most of the site is very open plan and our first night was a little tense with lots of kids tearing around on bikes and scooters between and around vans, but I guess you should expect that in August. Moved to a quiter pitch nearer the site entrance on day 2. There are a number of pleasant walks and cycle rides from the campsite alongside the waterways and through woods and fields. Highly recommend a trip to How Hill, just a couple if miles by car. Free parking in a very large grass car park with plenty of space for games and picnic and lovely views over the fens. Walk round the formal and secret gardens (donations) and a nature trail (entrance fee). A great and cheap day out on a sunny day. All in all an excellent site and will definitely return.
This is one of our favourite sites.
So well placed for lovely walks round the broads.
Pub within a few minutes walk which is dog friendly and sells good food, a lovely cafe for breakfast & lunch plus a little convenience shop to top up on provisions.
everything we want when we are enjoying our break.
The onsite staff are very friendly & helpful and ensure you have the best stay possible.
If you're looking for a walking / wildlife break I highly recommend you book this site.
Another good point is the access from the A149 is good from whichever direction you come, our caravan is extra wide but the roads are a good size.
What we liked:
a) good location at centre of Norfolk Broads;
b) ability to go on walks and cycling along rivers and to ruined abbey direct from campsite
c) site very well maintained and spotlessly clean
d) social distancing well managed
Room for Improvement:
a) design layout of site is without any imagination - just like a green car park; pitch sizes are fine, but there are no trees or hedges - all the pitches are pretty much the same with no variety and no privacy - it did not spoil our enjoyment, but you will definitely not remember this site for it being different or special; (Unfortunately often the case with the Caravan Club - I guess due to origins and history of the Club - you have to go to small privately owned sites to find something really different/ creative/ special in terms of design and layout. The Club wins back points on uniformity and consistency and quality... but that's a debate for another day...)
b) this site attracts dog owners/ lovers, not all well behaved, and producing a lot of extra noise (barking, yapping, etc. especially in mornings and evenings - definitely detracts from the peacefulness of the site.
Overall very satisfied, would definitely stay here again
3rd time at this site and still love it! The staff are always smiling and work hard to keep the grounds looking immaculate. Great location for tourist attractions, hire a boat it’s a great day out, Ludham bridge is a short walk away with a cafe for takeaway or eating in. The butchers in Ludham village is great and reasonably priced.
We’ll be back again I’m sure!
Went here for 4 day break last week in July, fantastic location, close to the beach, some fantastic areas for bike roads, lots of back roads to avoid the traffic. The village of Horning has an amazing Marina where the Southern Comfort paddle steamer is located, £9 per adult, dogs go free, 90 minute tour of some of the broads, bar on board for a nice pint or G & T as you gently paddle along.
The weather was fantastic and the site very pleasant, the only thing that spoilt the last afternoon and evening was 2 families in caravans who thought it was OK for their kids plus others from the site to scream, shout, ride their bikes right next to my motorhome on my pitch, throwing buckets of water (including the dad), went on all day, at 20.45 we very politely asked if they would mind calming down only to be met by a torrent of abuse, threatening and aggressive behaviour and basically "mind your own business, cos we is on holiday and our kids can play and scream all day and all night", in the end they finally began to calm down but make it clear that on the Sunday they would be raising a racket, i didn't care because it was our last evening. The lady opposite left that day having had enough, even though they had paid for 7 days, the noise and general behaviour was too much, the very nice people on the opposite side of our pitch said they would see how it went but planned to complain to the warden. Interestingly the family on the pitch previous to the 2 other families had also been warned by the warden before we arrived as their children were throwing pitching hammers at each other next to other motorhome's. Unfortunately i have come across this attitude too many times now, some parents believe little johnny and daisy are perfectly entitled to behave as they like, they do not believe it is their responsibility to ensure their children are raised to be considerate to others. To the Club I would ask that all families are made aware that everyone has the right to expect consideration from other members on site, OK thats it rant over.
This was a lovely site. I stayed in October, so was nice and quiet for me and my 3 dogs. Very close to facilities, a cafe and shop a short walk away, and a pub in the other direction, with pavements to walk on. Very close to the river where there is a footpath to walk on. Not far from Yarmouth and other coastal towns and villages. Will definitely be visiting again.
We visit this great little gem every year and love it, the wardens bend over backwards even when busy to make your stay great. The added bonus of chickens wandering around were lovely to watch. Also the convenience of catching a bus to Wroxham or Norwich even though only every 2 hours made our stay perfect. Thanks we'll be back.
