What a gem!
What a gem of a site! Direct access on to a quiet beach, suitable for swimming excellent for paddle boarding, the water was calm until today when there was a squall as we were leaving. As other views have mentioned there are pebbles at the top of the beach, but there was a lovely expanse of sand when the tide was out, when the tide was in fully, there was no sand, but plenty of room to walk the dogs across the dunes.
Two toilet blocks which closed at different times, so I could have my shower even if I was ‘late’ getting organised.
The pitches are large and there is plenty of choice of sea view, or little glade.
If you are looking for peace and quiet this is the one for you.
A trip to the lighthouse is a must, where surprisingly there is a lovely cafe/restaurant which served us a beautiful lunch out on the terrace with views to rival any we have seen abroad. Port Patrick was quaint with plenty of pubs offering lunches outside.
The grocer in Dunnmore village was very well stocked,
My only grievance was with the selfish people who were parked up by the entrance to the site to ‘wild camp’. Some felt entitled to walk across the beach and nip up to use the showers for free. Being British we didn’t say anything to them, just glared, but having chatted to the warden about it I understand that locks will be put on the shower block for next year. Apparently it all began after Covid.
I can’t comment on the wi fi as we don’t use it on holiday, there was a good O2 signal and 4G was fine too. There was a lovely play area for children and a games room, but very few children as the Scottish schools had gone back, I understand it was very crowded the week before.
On the whole we had a wonderful week, the dogs loved it too. We shall be back.
