Review for camping
Great to have a caravan club site that accommodates those who prefer to camp rather than caravan. A great location, great beach, clean and shallow waters. Site was clean throughout. Toilet etc, facilities were spotless. Take care - the hot water taps were scalding! The children’s play park is substandard, containin next to no play items. Very boring for kids aged 3+. There are no swings, something which one would expect to see in a play park. The Games Room needs serious upgrading; there isn’t much to do. If you don’t enjoy table tennis or a game of ’giant’ Connect-4 then don’t expect much more. There’s no tv. Plenty jigsaws, but no table to put them on! One double sofa, no other seats/chairs. No heating. The tent pitches - 5 available - are at the rear of the site and are well sheltered from prevailing winds. Easily reached within the toilet facilities. WARNING: Take major heavy duty pegs, and take lots(!) AND a hammer - the ground is full of rocks/pebbles, with a very thin layer of soil/grass on top. I bent EVERY tent peg that I had, trying to hammer into the ground. You need to insert the peg into the ground at a 2 degree angle to prevent hitting the rocks…..yes, it’s that bad!!! The shop sells ‘rock’ pegs at £0.80p each, so the owners are obviously well aware of the issues that campers are experiencing. The site does not mention the poor ground conditions on their website….which in my opinion, they should. Also, the pitches are not level, all are on a slight slope which isn’t great for sleeping or cooking.
Overall….. Pros - good campsite, quiet, clean, friendly staff, beach lovely. Cons - poor ground conditions for tents, games room and playground sub-standard, both requiring serious upgrading.
