The beach to yourself.
We stayed at the New England Bay site for 6 nights, we arrived to wet and windy weather and it took four of us to get the awning up, once it was up it was fine, a friendly gentleman from another pitch and my dad, who was also staying, helped. We then enjoyed 5 days of great weather. The site is large and spacious, as this was our first visit we went on the second row for a sea view but there are many secluded and private pitches towards the back of the site. Logan Bakehouse visit on Wednesday morning with freshly baked goods - bread, croissants, pan au chocolate, crumble tarts, the list is endless and of course fresh bread cakes (cobs, barms, cakes, rolls - whatever you happen to call them). There is also a fresh fish van on Thursdays and a fish and chip van on Tuesdays and Fridays. There isn't much of a phone or TV signal but the wifi works great. As our dog loves beaches we really could have stayed on site for the whole six days, exercise on the beach and a swim and relaxing at the caravan. There is the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse to visit with an RSPCA centre and cafe too, great toasted sandwiches and scones and cream. Dogs can only sit outside though, it was very windy so we ate our lunch in the car. Portpatrick has a fish and chip van and a few hotels/pubs to eat and drink at, though the Pottery had hardly any pottery for sale. Locals sell eggs and the biggest lettuces you have seen in a while for just 40p. Drunmore has a shop to stock up and Stranrear has petrol and large supermarkets. Port Logan is small and has a CL site, there was lots of jelly fish on this beach though so we didn't go back - but the beach on site was much better and bigger anyway. Each toilet block had Swallows nesting, one nest in the pot wash, rabbits everywhere, you could count around 20 or more out of each window. This has to be one of our favourite sites. Great for dogs who love the beach and humans who only need a few places to visit or could spend all their time on site. We will be returning soon.
