Didn't work for us in these times

The ‘Modbury Information Centre’ states that “It is often said that Modbury’s greatest asset is its people”. We met a fair few of them as we towed our caravan the last few miles into the Club site. A few were not pleased to meet us and one or two invited us to return whence we came! It took an ‘uncomfortable’ 45 minutes from the A38 early on a Monday afternoon. The description of the site in the 'Why Stay Here' section of the website says it all really, though I would highlight the children's play field as a particularly good feature. If you are wondering why so many, like me, find it necessary to mention the journey in, it is because it is one of the main features of a break at the Modbury site. Unfortunately, it is one that will deter me from bothering again. We have been trying to avoid catching the Coronavirus and so checked with the site prior to departure and we were assured by the measures they described to ensure our safety. We were very quickly dismayed by the number of people who ignored the safety measures at the facilities block. We were further disappointed that the limits on occupancy were doubled half-way through our stay (3-9 August) presumably because of pressure from visitors as we were unaware of any change in ‘the science’. Even so, the new limits were frequently ignored and there were many times when we did not feel safe. When other responsible leisure organisations are limiting numbers we were surprised the Club felt it could safely operate its sites at full capacity whilst halving the facilities open for use. I have separately expressed these views to the Club. Likewise, cleanliness inevitably suffered when only half the normal number of showers, toilets, etc, were available. Let me end by saying that I intend no criticism of the Wardens who were making a splendid effort to maintain the facilities and should not be expected to police rules set for the safety of all.
