Quiet peaceful site

First time for us, at Modbury, like some of the other reviews the road in, is narrow and could be a issue, if your were to meet a HGV. First impressions, were the grounds were well looked after, and we received a warm welcome, from the warden. The pitch we chose, was a nice sheltered pitch, which was just as well as it got very, windy during our stay. What let the site down, was the toilet block, which the wardens kept clean, but were very dated, and not up to the Clubs usual standard. For this reason, I don’t think we would use the site again, we expect something a little better for our money. It was a very peaceful site, with no road noise, but that is not enough for us to return.

Very well kept Site with a wonderful dog exercise field.

It was a pleasure to stay at Modbury with our four legged family member who had a wonderful time on the beautifully maintained and extensive dog exercise field. It is ideal for exercising an active dog playing fetch with a ball, and also for socialising with other dogs and having a good game of chase(the dogs that is!) This is very important to us as it provides a safe environment where dogs can have fun off the lead without the worry of long un-mowed grass and undergrowth, which hide the threat to a dog's health from ticks, fleas, grass seeds (these get into eyes, ear and paws) but most dangerous of all provides a hiding place for adders. Full marks to Modbury Wardens for providing this superb area. These days we always contact Club Sites direct to make sure that the on site dog walk is a good field which is properly mowed before we book. We do not go to sites with these dreadful fields with long grass and weeds etc with a few "pathways" cut out. These get worn and muddy and enables the more anti social to leave their dog's mess behind. We know there are other dog owning Club members who also share these views.

Great site for dogs.....

Booked this site as a 'stop over' on our way up from Cornwall and will return! Very friendly and helpful wardens, particularly as we had to get the AA out. Excellent spacious dog walk on site. Facilities were a bit dated but clean and everything worked.

well run site, handy for ferry

We booked this site for just one night as it is a short drive from the Plymouth ferry port. We were surprised and delighted to be greeted by Chris and Tina, who do everything they can to make your stay a happy one. Their common sense approach at Start Bay club site restored our faith in the club. The facilities are somewhat dated (it's been years since I last saw a pink soap dish in the shower cubicle) but are extremely clean. A car is a necessity if you want to get out and about as the site is in the middle of nowhere. However, if all you want is relaxation, it's a haven of tranquility.

High Standard

Returned Monday after a first time visit for four nights and can only compliment the husband and wife wardens who are really bringing the site to an exceptionally high standard. Thank you. On top of that, a quieter more rural site would be hard to find.

Peaceful site But!

Very narrow roads to site. This is a fairly busy road used by HGV,s and local traffic using it as a cut through, there are only passing places on several sections of the road This has negotiated every time you go out which did become stressful at times. The site is kept very neat, wardens helpful and friendly . Toilet block very dated , tired with no benches to sit on and floor gets very wet due to shower angle

Chris and Tina are the most perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. The pitch sizes are very generous. we had such a relaxing weekend here with our dogs and look forward to coming again. Thank you

Wonderful Wardens and Beautiful Site

Firstly, I must say that the warm and friendly greeting that we received from Tina and Chris (the wardens) on arrival was like no other we have ever experienced before on a Caravan club site! In fact sometimes and sadly more often than not, you are lucky if they can crack a smile and wish you a pleasant stay... Tina and Chris on the other hand are the most welcoming and delightful people you could hope to be greeted by at the start of your holiday... They made all of us including our two children feel very comfortable and nothing was to much trouble! The site itself is idyllic, if you are looking for 'peace and tranquillity', then please look no further. The pitches are spacious and clean, the facilities are spotless, they keep the site tiptop, neat and tidy and there are plenty of pitches to choose from. We have just returned from a 3 night stay over this August Bank Holiday weekend, not only were we spoilt by the weather (it was glorious) we were almost overwhelmed by the site and all it had to offer... There is a large field for the children to play in, a children's play area with climbing frame and swing and plenty of opportunity to ride a bike or hop on a scooter in a very safe environment. If you are a dog owner we also noted a lovely dog walk to keep them exercised and happy too! We cancelled our membership this year after 14 loyal years, mainly due to several bad experiences with miserable, moody, unfriendly wardens who seemed to get a kick out of spoiling our visit in some way! Sadly that was all from our local site in Paignton and over the course of several years... We only decided to re join last minute due to the opportunity arising for a short break away with our children and my parents with their caravan. We are so glad that we did because these wardens fondly known as 'ChrisTina'' have restored our faith in the club and what it has to offer... Thanks so much for a wonderful stay, The Gibson's X

Brilliant for dogs!

I have only stayed in one other site so have little to compare to. However, we’ve just returned from 10 days here as a family with 2 young children and a dog. This site has a brilliant field designated for dogs so they can be let off the lead. The field is enormous and has shrubbery all the way round the edge making for an enthusiastic run a couple of times a day. Next to the dog field is another great field designated for those who want to play ball games etc (dogs can’t enter). It’s a really pretty field with only a section cut to grass. There is a small playground which the children enjoyed. We had 2 sets of wardens during our stay & all 4 were very friendly & helpful. The release wardens were particularly great as they had to assist us with an incident & were so brilliant about it all. The California Inn is a short drive away (under 5 minutes) & we had a fantastic £10 lunch (also dog friendly). We also went to The Ship Inn in Ugborough which had phenomenal food but it’s not cheap so it’s definitely for a treat. The garage opposite the California Inn includes a great supply of gluten free products and cook meals. The only thing I’ve marked down slightly is the facilities and that’s only because the shower block at the only other site I’ve stayed at was so brilliant. This one is immaculately clean and perfectly fine, but the cubicles are quite small for changing and the pressure & temperature fluctuated a little. A really minor point. Overall it’s a lovely site & it was so quiet - although the little area we were in had about 12 pitches & despite being the middle of the summer holidays we averaged about 4 being used over the 10 days so I’m not sure if that was usual or not. Would definitely recommend but especially for those with dogs.
