'Car Park'

We booked Minehead Caravan Club Site for a 5 night break but cut short the stay after 3 days. We booked 3 months in advance & very much looked forward to our visit. On arrival we were told we had an option of 2 pitches, (11-13) both of which were on the higher tier of the site. The higher tier is basically a gravel car park starved of sunlight, gloomy, miserable, cold & damp sums this part of the site up perfectly. With up to a dozen vans cramped together there's very little room left for privacy. A 100 metre walk to the washrooms & water supplies with a steep ascent to return to your caravan may well leave this part of the site out of bounds for some people. No locked security gate, poor levels of ambient light could leave you feeling vulnerable during the late hours.  There was also disruption to the water services due to pipe repairs, whilst we appreciate repairs are necessary this was just another factor that ruined our stay. If the site owners do insist on renting these gravelled areas out, they should consider a price reduction compared to pitches on the other levels. The Caravan Club should pay this site a visit or review what they define as a comfortable stay for their paying members. Very, very disappointed indeed.

Comment from The Caravan Club:

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review. The Site Staff have been in touch as they wanted to address your concerns. With regards to the disruption to the water supply, the site had a major water leak which was losing 117 gallons of water per hour. The leak was not visible and The club was informed by Wessex water that due to the leak being on site we had a legal responsibility to find the leak. All normal maintenance is carried out whenever possible when the site is quieter, but in an emergency situation this is not possible. Signs were placed on all water points and in the toilet blocks informing members of the disruption to the water supply which lasted for approximately 90 minutes for the 10 days it took to find the leak. The wardens tried to time this to when the toilets were closed for cleaning to minimise any disruption to members.

With regards to the area where you were pitched we would like to advise, there are 9 pitches here, 6 with awning and 3 without awning, all with the regulation fire break between each pitch, so as such they are well spaced. We are really sorry to read you did not feel this was the case and that you did not enjoy your stay.
