pleasantly surprised

its been over 25 years since we visited Minehead, & I cant recall much of it other than Butlins where we were staying for a comedy weekend so it was with some reserve that I booked it, and Im glad I did. The site has direct access from the A39 and is situated just outside the town. There is a small run of shops 5 mins walk for all of your top up groceries/papers/take away needs, and supermarkets a further 5 min walk on. The seafront (Butlins end) is about a 15-20 min walk, but the much nicer end of town with the harbour and town centre shops & cafes is 20 mins in the other direction. The Ship Aground pub on the harbour allows dogs inside, nice green area behind for dog exercise which then leads steeply uphill along the coast path. A flatter walk is past Butlins and skirts the golf course. A back road walk to Dunster is undulating and takes about 40 mins. The site itself is fairly linear with cul de sacs so the MO is to book in at reception, park up, walk to pick a pitch and let reception know as they hand you a site map with the available pitches so dont have to wander all over. small amenities block, clean but a bit dated compared to other club sites, great off lead dog walk, wood shavings underfoot & log piles. A bit of road hum, and could hear some Butlins music but not obtrusive. The site managers Zoe & Sam were friendly, cheery & helpful, a credit to the Club. We would return

Great site, very helpful staff

We have just returned from a very relaxing stay. This is a well laid out site, the facilities are spotless, the pitches are of a good size and generally flat. Site is well kept by the staff, who are very approachable and friendly. On arrival we had a problem with power hook up. Zoe, came to our aide and put a lot of energy into helping to sort out our problem, which , turned out to be our hook up cable. A very big thankyou to Zoe Will certainly visit again

A very good Club Site

We visited on a damp weekend in February and the lovely clean and well appointed shower facilities were very welcome. A surprisingly peaceful site but very well located for local walks (Dunster Castle 2m uphill but nothing too onerous) and the beach (15-20m stroll). Shops, take aways and restaurants all within easy walking distance. We had peg 27 which was only just big enough for our 8m motorhome and didn't allow us room to use our levellers but we only booked the week before so were happy to get in! It was our first visit to a Club Site and it far exceeded our expectations (we prefer the CL sized facilities) The site directions say to use Junction 24 but visiting from the north Junction 23 was a lot quieter (we arrived via J24 and queued into, through and out of Bridgwater, whereas leaving via J23 was a breeze).

Handy location

A small, exceptionally clean and organised dog friendly site on the fringe of Minehead. A 20 mins stroll through the suburbs brings you to the beach front and even less if you want the main parade with all the usual shops and eateries that a small town can offer. Plenty of dog friendly pubs too and take aways within walking distance. So if in a Motorhome without separate transport this can still be a nice stop for a few days with a coastal walk both hilly and flat depending on direction taken. Would highly recommend for a few days or longer if you have a car to get out and about. Generally the coast is rugged and not the areas best attraction if a sandy sunny beach stay is wanted…at least not in winter. On the whole it is good to have this site so close to civilisation and on a year round basis too. Well done.

Great site.

Excellent site friendly staff. Medium size but feels smaller because of banks and trees dividing it up. Great location on the edge of Minehead. Make sure to visit the old harbour area and 'Upper Town' so different to the 20th century side of the town. Highly recommend Hidden Histories of Minehead on phone walking tours. https://minehead.storywalks.info/ The local fish and chip shop by the roundabout served us some of the best we've had in a long time. Great walks all around especially Dunster and with good weather in Jan we only paid £21 pn what's not to like.

Smashing little site, great for exploring Exmoor and Minehead

Really nicely laid out little site, little cul-de-sacs make it feel quite secluded, and good screening of the site from banks and trees make it very sheltered too - I barely felt the tail end of Storm Barra, tucked into the bank as I was! (It reduces noise from the nearby road too.) The dogs loved the woodland dog area, although I would have felt more relaxed with them scampering about if the area was fully secure. (But that's down to me to do more training!) It was only a 2-nighter for my first visit here, but I will certainly be back. Exmoor is a favourite, and this site is very handy, whilst being sheltered and also close to Minehead, with supermarkets, good local shops, plenty of fuel, eateries, etc etc. Not to mention the beach of course :).

The Best CAMC Site We've Visited

A short break of 3 nights, mid November and it was excellent. The site team were really warm and genuine with a great welcome and really caring attitude. The site is relatively small and is well laid out with small cul-de-sac pitch areas, which add to the feeling of privacy and seclusion. The sites was really quiet and peaceful, set in woodland, which provided welcome shelter from the Autumn breezes, but inevitably led to large volumes of leaf fall, but the site team were on the case each day keeping them at bay. The site is very well located, around a 15 minute walk to Minehead sea front or town centre, which offers plenty of dog-friendly cafes, pubs and other facilities - definitely worth mentioning the Hairy Dog (pub) and Butterflies Cafe as two really welcoming and very dog-friendly businesses. We will definitely be returning in the near future and Thank You to the Site Team for keeping the site so great and the best CAMC site we've visited so far!

A Great Site

We like this site because there are so many walks directly from the site. You can pick up the coast path on the seafront or walk over the hill behind to Dunster. If that’s too far just walking down to the seafront is pleasant and if you time your visit correctly there is the steam train and the open top bus to take you further afield. It’s very useful having the local shops and restaurant as well. The site can feel slightly more cramped than others as cars tend to have to park in front of the caravan and awning rather than alongside. Not sure about what was happening with the staffing this time as the lovely lady seemed to be managing on her own which meant ringing the bell and waiting for assistance. Felt sorry for her as the site was very full. For a very small site the number of speeding drivers was extraordinary, both car drivers (members and visitors clearly) and Motorhomes. It would seem despite the club’s efforts people still don’t understand the need to reduce their speed and must feel what they are doing is acceptable. The poster outside reception detailed the excessive driving that had been taking place but I suspect no one read it. Would it be sensible to hand this out and to have some driver education?

first outing in our camper van

This was our first visit to the Minehead Club Site and it won`t be our last. We love this area of the country and have visited Minehead and Dunster many times. We found the staff to be really friendly and the fellow campers were great to chat to. Bathroom facilities were very clean. We will definitely be back especially as this site is open all year round.

Excellent Site.

This is the second time we have stayed at Minehead Club site. The staff are friendly helpful and knowledgeable The site and facilities are very clean and there is always hot water. It is only a ten minute walk into Minehead centre were you can find places to eat and drink and all the shops you would need. There is a promenade that will take you to the harbour and give access to the national coastal path, walking the opposite way will on the promenade will give you take you to Dunster beach and Dunster castle. The open top bus to Lynmouth via Exmoor is not to be missed, (don't forget your bus pass!)
