Good base for exploring the Southern Lakes

Meathop Fell makes a good base for exploring the Southern Lakes and there are some lovely walks from the site. Grange over Sands, Lindale and Crag Wood, which has lovely views across the estuary are all within a couple of miles of the site along quiet lanes or across fields. The sit itself is interesting in that nearly 1/3 of the pitches are no awning ones, mainly gravel hard standings but some on tarmac. Quite a number of pitches are sloping and the hardstandings will challenge the most determined rock pegs. Pitches are arranged in various groups, so studying the site plan before arrival is worth considering. The earliest arrival time is now 1300 due to the narrow final approach. Sadly, some members seem to think this does not apply to them but is there for a very good reason. There is a large fenced field where dogs can run around behind the toilet block and another smaller one by the entrance so our four legged friends will love being here..
