Dissatisfied

On arrival there is no choice of pitch and we found ourselves some distance from the toilet blocks and even further from waste recycling. As an OAP this was unfortunate. At peak times there were queues for the toilets and showers. The showers were on short timed push buttons with clinging curtains. I found the charge for the hairdryer penny pinching, cost me 40p. The grounds are well kept but they need another shower block and more waste collection points. I will not be staying there again unless improvements are made

Response from the Caravan and Motorhome Club

Many thanks for your review. We have heard from the team at Lucksall as they work extremely hard to ensure all their guests have an enjoyable stay at their site which has beautiful surroundings in a picturesque location.

With regards to your concerns they have advised that pitches are pre-allocated at time of booking; they try to accommodate everyone the best they are able to. Certain pitches get booked up way in advance as they have many returning guests staying with them.

Please note the team at Lucksall are always happy to help and if you had any issues during your stay they strongly advise you speak to a member of staff, who would have tried to rectify any issues you may have experienced.

In total there are three toilet and shower facility blocks located on the Caravan Park and please note you can go to another block if one is busy. There is a small charge for hairdryers. This is to prevent them being left on unattended and burning the motor out, which has unfortunately happened in the past. The charge is not for ‘penny pinching’ reasons, please be assured this is certainly not the case. The showers are push button to prevent them being left on unattended and wasting unnecessary water.

General waste/ recycling is located in the middle of the Park at Washroom 2. By having them located here it means that no-one has to be looking at or next to the bins, which would impact guests stay. It also means you have to drive past this area when exiting the Caravan Park so can dispose of your rubbish on your way.

The site is very sorry you did not enjoy your stay and please note if you speak to them at the time they will do their utmost to try and rectify any problems you have.

Autumn break

We’ve just returned from a 6 night break at this lovely site. You can book hardstandings, and pitches are allocated by the staff. Our’s was south facing, surrounded by grass, and bordered with trees behind, and a hedge to one side. As we were staying a few nights, we decided to put up our porch awning. It was surprisingly easy to knock the pegs into the surface, unlike on some hardstandings. At this time of year there were lots of empty pitches, so we had a quiet stay. Access from the road is easy, and there’s no single track roads to negotiate. It was possible to hear some road noise during the day. A torch is essential if walking around the site at night as there’s no lighting. Facilities are very clean, but there is a charge of 20p to use the hairdrier, so you need to take change or use your own. The showers are the push button variety, and the shower heads are fixed, so it’s nigh on impossible to shower without getting your hair wet. On the plus side, the water was comfortably warm, but not too hot. The shop looked well stocked with both general and caravanning essentials. We used the cafe for a cooked breakfast on our first morning, but didn’t feel inspired by the evening menu. We had a lovely meal at the nearby “Bunch of Carrots” pub one evening. The excellent carvery is served 7 days a week (we enjoyed it very much), and the main menu looked good. We were very lucky with the weather and, all in all, we enjoyed our stay at Lucksall very much.

Lovely Setting

This site has a gorgeous setting on the banks of the river. The pitch we had was huge. Some pitches are looking over the river. Had great shop on site. Lovely bar and restaurant with tables outside to enjoy a drink and the sunshine( hopefully). Great open feel with good play area for children. Site is set in beautiful countryside but not far into Hereford. Would recommend.

An excellent site

This is a good site. Picturesque location on the banks of the Wye. Lots of good walks from the site. Perfect if you like fishing. Nice little restaurant on site. Bus service from the site entrance into Hereford. Facilities are adequate, bit of a walk from some of the pitches. Pitches are level and predominantly hardstanding. Friendly and helpful wardens.

Spacious Site

This is a lovely spacious site with massive pitches set out along the River Wye. On some pitches caravan and car can be parked end to end and still room for another car and an awning!!! The three toilet blocks vary in age, the better one, in my view, is the one furthest from reception. There is a good drive over motorhome waste point. The site has a useful onsite shop which is quite comprehensive and next door a rather nice bar/restaurant. We ate there one evening and enjoyed the food. Unfortunately the only WiFi is in the reception area but it is currently free. The site hope to have a site wide service installed over winter of 2017/18. Club members get a small nightly discount on site fees on production of your membership card. There is a bus stop immediately outside the entrance with an almost hourly service into Hereford which seemed popular with campers. Hereford is really nice and worth the trip. There are several supermarkets but if you are on the bus the Waitrose and Tesco will be the easiest. The only downside to our stay here was a rather aggressive dog owner who took exception to being asked politely not to exercise his dogs on our pitch but I am sure that was a one off.

Friendly site with massive pitches

A good quality site mixing statics, tents, motorhomes and caravans without much of a problem. Friendly staff, on site adequate shop and reasonable toilet/shower facilities. Very large and well mown grass pitches not so keen on the pea gravel beach look of the hard standings. Lots of greenery and flowers. Reasonably priced with a little extra for the riverside pitches (well worth it). Saw ducks, kingfisher, swans, bats, swallows, buzzards, water vole, jumping salmon and of course canoeists - lovely. On site restaurant - did not try but the crowds heading for Sunday fry up and then Sunday lunch obviously think its OK. Looks great for kids, v.good play area and football area, good bike/scooter riding site roads! Dogs seen in profusion most owners responsible. Right on River Wye and canoe launching area at bottom of site and hiring available. Only negatives - one idiot a couple of pitches down decides to play with his drone, buzzing over pitches and hovering with camera running - call me old fashioned but the noise and peeping tommery was not appreciated - pitch 9 you know who you are. Riverside pitches just a few feet from the bank of river with no path for those wanting to wander along bank - consequently campsite etiquette continually breeched as folk want to walk over your pitch, cables, chairs etc so they can walk along the river. Note to site owner provide a river viewing area to prevent this annoyance to those who paid extra for the riverside pitch. Apart from that nice feeling to the site with different client groups mixing well. Would we go back - no - but not because of the site - mainly because the area is disappointing and roads around Hereford are clogged and potholed.

Safety issue

A fantastic location. You are allocated pitches, prime ones on grass and overlooking the river. These pitches are separated by a thin burnt line in the grass, no separation area. On booking in you are asked to locate your van in the centre of the pitch and this is reiterated ( all be it in very small writing ) on the given leaflet. In theory you could have caravans pitched up with only inches between them, if one or both choose to. Whilst there we did notice that other vans had been pitched off centre, in one instance vans a few feet apart. When asked re the accepted 6 metre gap between units, management shrugged shoulders stating "We ask them to pitch in the middle" Needless to say the above units remained in there few feet apart, potentially compromising each others health and safety. Assuming both did not worry about safety. Seems the management, yes friendly enough, condone the unsafe pitching by people who do not care or cannot read.

The Wye with all

Just back from this wonderful site. Sited right next to the river Wye and offering direct access for those wishing to canoe or kayak, this is the place to come, although young children need to be supervised near the riverbank. This is the place to come and relax, fish, cycle, stroll or visit historic Hereford. The site has it all, extremely friendly and helpful staff, large well manicured pitches, plenty of spotless facilities in three blocks, a well stocked shop and excellent cafe/restaurant/bar onsite overlooking the river. A great place to stay and should be on your visit list
