Got busy and rules too relaxed

Lovely, large site, with good shower blocks, small shop and an information room. We've been here when there was a set of workers run by a strict command, a few years ago. Could be annoying when the rules were adhered to, to sometimes an unnecessary level, like banging on the door during a storm, demanding we pay by an exact time when they could've waited for the storm to pass, when we extended. However, it was very efficiently run and the workers were conspicuous and always seemed to be on their toes working. The current management appears to be very laid back. Even letting people in to find pitches, not long after 11, which is disruptive when others are trying to leave. And not so restful when they all pile in early.... Speed levels on site are not enforced. Some going 20+mph the wrong way! Although most respect speed limits and one way signs. Children are here at the beginning of July - perhaps throwing sickies. And one night there was a group of kids running around everywhere, with huge water guns, shouting and noisy at 10pm. No warden in sight. And we don't feel they are checking properly. One example is there was a white transit van with sliding door, no fittings inside and a tent/awning on the side, on a grass pitch, masquerading as a motorhome! That is not ok, regarding the club rules, as far as we're aware, and yet wasn't checked or noticed, clearly. That said, it is more peaceful, than when staff were constantly on mowers or strimming, or driving around checking. But no sight of staff other than cleaning the blocks and emptying bins quickly, We don't feel quite so secure as we did here before. That said, the toilets are extremely clean. They don't seem to start cleaning before the time allocated, unlike some sites, where you're left in the shower getting ready and cleaning taking place before stipulated. The pool is lovely, the wardens friendly and generally helpful. Only thing is it seems particularly busy this year, maybe due to the great weather. Access to Looe is good via bus, but expensive for 2 returns. But it dues stop outside tbe site in season. It's on the whole a good site. Many of the pitches, including hard standings, are not level, so need wedges etc to raise. Improvements could be made to level the hard standings. The motorhome service area needs updating as the facilities are arduous to use, as they require precise lining up as well as being slow flowing taps.

Excellent staff.

Facilities very good and enjoyed using the site pool and crazy-golf. What sets the site apart from other club sites is the staff who were friendly and went out of their way to be helpful to myself and my husband who's mobility is not 100%. It looks like the site might get very busy during school holiday time, so bear this in mind when booking. The bus service into Looe is excellent for motorhomers, but pricey for the 3 mile trip (£4.20 return). Probably cheaper and more reliable than the car-park in Looe though, which had a 'car-park full' sign displayed each time we visited. Great fish and chips on the Harbourside of Looe, and all manner of pubs and restaurants in the town. Buses running until past eleven at night so you can have an evening out and get the bus back. Recommended.

A great Place to Stay

We had a lovely few days at the Looe Caravan Club Site. We booked it as a stop over after returning from France and didn't look at the facilities. What a surprise to find we had a swimming pool. It was fully heated which was better than the one we had in France. The grass pitches are sloping so we were lucky enough to get a hard-standing pitch. They are very popular so try to get there early if you want one. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. The site was spotlessly clean. We are definitely looking to go back again.

Fantastic site

Had a lovely few days here in June. Superb site. ..very clean and tidy. Shower blocks were the best we have encountered and spotless. Lovely friendly wardens and always a smile and ready to help. The pool was amazing and again so clean . Would not hesitate to recommend. Thank you everyone.

Delightful but be aware....

We have used this wonderful site many times, usually April - June & September and have not had the problem with children that other Members appear to have had. I believe that having a swimming pool, beautiful as it is, is the main problem and does attract families with children. I do agree that the serviced pitches are not in the best of locations and we have stopped using them. Dogs on the site have not been a problem to us. The site is beautifully kept by the Wardens, all credit to them. My only gripe is positioning of the service points and Chemical Toilet Emptying Points which can be some distance from some pitches and sometimes up steps! Perhaps the Club could look at having Adult Only Sites?

Shame They Weren't Ready

We arrived on the first Saturday of the half term week and were told half the site wasn't ready as they hadn't yet put out the pitch marker numbers which forced everyone onto hard standings (which we hate) and in close proximity to everyone else.....this took nearly a week for them to finish. Our other issue was the way one of the staff spoke to friends of ours who were also staying. Their booking system had misfired and had them checking out a day earlier than they had booked through the club website....their confirmation email was correct. This meant they had been under charged at entry. This member of staff came round and snapped 'you're supposed to be gone!'. The site could not produce any evidence of what they had paid, and our friends had lost the receipt, yet they were still asked to pay the extra £50 odd for the additional night on faith alone. No offer of meeting them halfway or anything, just a demand for payment. Then then they were made to feel like the site was doing them a favour as if they corrected it on the system it would charge them more. Won't be staying here again.

Fabulous

The site is located a mile or so outside Looe but access is easy albeit the walking routes in to town are very steep downhills, which mean only one thing...lung & calf busting steep uphills. During our week long stay we used the bus once from Looe (£2.60 per adult single) & a taxi (£8)...so options available if you’re not feeling too energetic. Looe is extremely dog friendly with many really good cafes & eateries. The working harbour is bustling & lively. The coastal path walk to Polperro was great & of course the trusty no.72 bus back which stops right outside the site entrance. Back to the site it’s got all the usual club standards on display, plus an outdoor pool. During school holidays this site will undoubtedly be full of families. We would definitely return to this fantastic area of Cornwall.

Lovely Looe

This was our first trip to Looe MCC site in our motorhome. The site itself is beautiful, particularly in April when we visited as the pink flowering cherry trees were in full bloom. The layout is very pleasing with distance views of the sea and surrounding hillsides. Facilities were spotless. If you have a car with you, this is probably one of the nicest sites on the network. Sadly for us, two middle-aged fifty somethings with two also middle-aged dogs and a toddler Grandson, it was just too far away from anywhere. There is a bus service, but only every two hours so not that practical when you want to get out and about. Onsite shop not great but it was the beginning of the season which could be a factor. Site itself though - faultless.

Well kept site

We had a very pleasant 3 night break here before Easter. The site was quiet and peaceful I am not so sure what it would be like when it is full. The shower block was kept clean and tidy with good warm showers. There is a site shop which has a few essentials and we were able to order bread for the morning. The site staff were very helpful especially with details of bus times, the bus stopped outside the site entrance which was very good. The lanes are narrow around so not really suitable for cycling but you can walk from the site to the coastal path. The pheasants on site were quite noisy but not too bad, mostly they kept out of your way.

Quiet Out of Season

We stayed in March. Nice, quiet site out of season. Staff very friendly & helpful about bus routes & walks. Follow the directions in the book as some roads are very narrow. There is a bus-stop outside. It took about 40 mins to walk into Looe but we got the bus back as it's a steep climb - £2 per person single. The Coddy Shack is a nice chippy/restaurant & a 10min walk on grass paths & pavements. Take a torch at night. Lovely food but not cheap. We didn't use our bikes as the roads were narrow & steep.
