Perfect Escape

We always tend to find somewhere for a New Year break that offers an escape with fun for our two young children. This was perfect. The location is fabulous. I’ve seen some criticising the approach road - why? To have the best locations often there’s a minor compromise. The access from the main road is narrow briefly but then is a properly made up road - it’s not a track and isn’t particularly bendy or dangerous. The approach to the site was fabulous. Lots of room and sufficient Late Night Arrivals Parking which we utilised. The site offers far more character than many of the Club’s sites with open pitches and others surrounded by trees and a choice of locating on a quieter side away from the Longleat service road. If you are a light sleeper avoid the pitches close to this road as Longleat staff and deliveries commence rather early and can be noisy. Over the other side you’ll be adjacent to the waterfall, the steam railway and the distant cries of sea lions. It’s magical for children. The wardens here were so friendly and helpful. They are a credit to the site (although I believe you’ll find them at other sites this year) and the facilities were spotless even though the site was almost full over New Year. You can walk into Longleat so avoiding the parking issues and collect your car for easy access to the Safari. Yes, Longleat is costly but in our opinion worth every penny if you leav yourself sufficient time to do all on offer. Our 4 yr old and 7 yr old loved their break here as we did so much in close proximity. Bath is a short drive and offers so much and there many other places of interest and beauty close by. If like us you want to visit during school holiday time it seems advisable to book early as we struggled to get a pitch and it took much perseverance to eventually get a booking. Also - don’t miss the Festival of Light if here across the Festive period. It was magnificent. I would visit Longleat and caravan there with my parents in the 70s and this first trip with my children was made very special because of the quality of the site and the hard work of the Club’s staff.
