Good for families

Lovely Site very helpful and friendly staff.

We return to Littlehampton Club Site many times to visit family. There are a number of club sites around this area we could use but this one in our estimation is the best well run and our family also know where it is for a easy visit.............................However,,, once again I found I came up against what seems a more common problem over this season, and that is Service Pitches that are booked for 1 or 2 nights only, thus blocking off a whole week or more for members such as us who want to book a week or more stay. I appreciate it is a first come first served basis, however I know I will upset a few people when I point the finger at MotorHome/Camper vans.owners, I counted at least 6 service pitches used by small camper vans over the week that came and pitched for just one or two nights and then off. Some did not use the full services of the pitch which I really do think is rather selfish. It is a known fact that a caravan is pitched more in one place longer than the moving camper/motorhome. I am not the only member observing this problem and I feel the club should make it a ruling that to book a service pitch should be for a minimum 3-4 nights.

Selfish? Problem? What is the issue with any unit using a serviced pitch for any length of time for whatever reason? As long as it’s paid for, it’s up to the occupant what they utilise it for.

I could say it’s equally selfish to expect to get a serviced pitch for a whole week thus depriving others the use of it for a shorter stay. But think about it and you’ll realise that a minimum of 3/4 nights would still not guarantee you’d get a whole week. It would be pointless.

There is nothing special about any member (the less able excepted) to warrant different booking/pitch allocation arrangements. The simple answer is to book earlier rather than expecting the system to change to suit you.

As a caravanner who has never been, or desired to be a MHer, I have absolutely no problem with any type of unit booking any type of pitch for as long or short a period as they choose. All members have an equal opportunity to book pitches and if some want to contribute a few extra quid to the club finances, even if they don't then use what they have paid for, who am I to challenge them? To say it's selfish is unjustified.

There was an earlier thread suggesting the club should invest in more serviced pitches - I disagree - I think the balance on sites which have SP is about right and I'd rather the club spend money improving existing pitches, particularly at sites like Cirencester and Moreton in Marsh where there are some old tired looking narrow and sloping HS pitches. If the club are to spend money on more SP I think it would be better spent on sites that don't have them at the moment.

I have zero sympathy for the OP's selfish attitude.

+1 to all 4 replies. Amazes me people think they have additional rights, when its a clear first come first served. "Twonomadics" you should be ashamed of your attitude to a club that is open to Motorhomes and Caravan owners.

Well, I guess I did ruffle a few M/h owners feathers. We were the "Caravan Club" but Oh how things have changed.

Regret that I do not change my views, as I have the right to say as a member on and off since 1970 , with a caravan, the club will never be the same to me.
